We have lived in Highland House West for a couple of years and survived most of the major repairs discussed by frustrated ex-tenants. We are glad that these steps were taken, but it was not easy to live through. So, we are also moving out. The Friendship Heights area will continue to be built up for many years, see the Washingtonian story April 2005 edition entitled "Beg Borrow or Steal" for information on upcoming construction. Those living in Highland House are getting a taste of the brick work and balcony replacement we got a few years back. We also do not know what is next in the planning stages for us but they recently did a brick inspection for us too! Unfortunately they have not told us anymore so we assume the worse and worry that scaffolds are again in our future. The management is finally starting to crack down on the abuse of the parking lots by commuters which was making it difficult to get a space (unless you pay extra to get one assigned). But with the alleged rape at Highland House very fresh in our minds, we wonder why more is not done to improve security in the garage and delivery ramp areas. As rental prices go up around the area, one has a right to expect some sense of community and quiet. It is not Highland House Wests fault, but I can no longer recommend living here.
