THE GOOD:
If you're looking for a fabulous location in the heart of a safe, pretty, buzzing, medium-sized city, this is it! Bethesda Commons is less than a mile from the metro and surrounded by dozens of places to eat and shop. It's great being able to walk to the grocery store, post office, pharmacy, etc. The apartments are in pretty good condition and while I've heard that management is crappy, I've experienced same or next day fixits of malfunctioning or broken items. Naturally the price is extremely affordable considering the area.
THE BAD AND THE UGLY:
Maybe it's just my apartment, but the garbage disposal always smells like a rotting garbage can. I try to cover the hole, even dump soap down into it but it never stays away long. While the location is great, anyone who visits crowded cities knows how crummy the parking is. There is NO parking. It's no different here... you have to fight for parking. If you're out late, don't expect to park anywhere near your apartment. If you want friends/family to spend a couple of nights, they have to venture into the city to find parking which is always metered beginning at 9 in the morning. And around here, they DO TOW!
Finally, the NOISE. It's sometimes hard to distinguish if it was your front door that just opened, or your neighbors. You can hear everyone upstairs and through all of the walls. Just remember that if you can hear your neighbor using the restroom, they hear you, too! And if you live near the Mercedes dealership as I did, purchase earplugs... they start work at 7 in the morning (8 on Saturdays)and are VERY NOISY.
So if you can stand extremely competitive parking (none available for visitors staying more than 24 hours) and a noisy atmosphere, then you'll love the affordable, bright, convenient and comfy Bethesda Commons!
