Briarcliff North is the smaller 1 bedroom and 1 bedroom with den community located on the other side of Cranbrook Rd., pretty much adjacent to the Cranbrook Shopping Center (aka strip mall). My husband and I have lived here for over 3 years now in two different apartments in the complex.
Overall: Office Staff- excellent, we have not had any problems with the staff, they all are top notch at what they do and care about your happiness. They are limited about what they can do about certain problems.
Location: So-so. The neighborhood seems to be getting worse each year. Issues with stupid kids seem on the rise. Some broken into vacant apt's in our last apt., they rove around too much and there is no security to tell them to bug off. I think all of Cockeysville suffers from neighborhood saturation. There are just too many people in too small a place. Kids didn't used to come here because the older folks would be vilgilant, now we seem to be the only people that do anything when scary looking kids are sitting on our stoop. A mix of Section 8 and non (they do not allow Section 8 at our Briarcliff) in this area really does not help the issue. Management has tried to get someone out there to keep the kids away if they stay in one place for a while, but during the summer I really think they need a security car in both complexes to make the quality of living better for the residents who pay steep rent to live here.
Neighbors: The quality of residents seems to have gone done in the past years. What used to be a lot of older people has been replaced by younger folks who can be completely ignorant with no respect. The noise level in your apartment is directly related to the people who live in your building. If you have a 22 year old who likes club and dance music, you will hear the bass, to the point where you can't function. The management will write letters, but your only hope is that person toning it down. We had that issue, after 2 cop calls and management letters they've gotten a clue.
Noise: See above. Generally very good. However, bass is an issue. If anyone is blarring their TV, you will hear it. The concrete does wonders if people would just play their equipment at a reasonable level, your neighbors won't hear anything. The only places where the voices are audible is when noise is right next to a window or in the bathroom. For some reason, you hear conversations/noise in the bathroom. No weird noise like in wooden floor apartments, but you still hear things. Overall, noise is really relative to who lives in your building. We've run the gamut from very quiet neighbors, to the very loud.
Overall, Briarcliff North is a good place to live. You are in walking distance to many shops, the folks at the management office have been there for a long time and really try and help you, the sound insulation is good (again depending on your neighbors) and the policy of not having children or pets in the complex deters from a lot of complaints I've read at other complexes. Only wish was for better security during summer months to keep out the riff-raff and stupid kids who wonder around our "private property" too much.
