Years at this apartment: 2008 - 2009
I have lived in one of Deertree's 3rd floor 2-bedroom apartments for about a year now. We live very close to the corner of the property and its nice because I feel like we have lots of "breathing room" here. The grounds are nice with the little stream flowing through much of the property. The pool is beautiful and big. The lawn, trees, and shrubberys are usually trimmed and well kept.
The buildings are old and it shows. The shared entryways are not locked so anyone can walk in, and while it hasn't been too much of a problem, I worry that it could be. Also, the shared entry is not carpeted so there is always an echo as people enter and exit. The echo can be annoying while you're inside your own apt. The apartments are fairly spacious for the cost and the location, but again, the building's age is apparent when you look closely. Nothing is falling on us but the walls, doors, and vents look old, cracked, worn, and in need of some upgrading. The carpet was was in good shape when we moved in so that was nice, but our cabinets are awful and look like someone made them in high school shop class. Also, the air conditioning unit is very old and looks like it was installed in 1969. The inside temperature will often rise to 77 or 78 when the outside temperature gets into the nineties.
We have bugs. We are relatively clean people, but we have had occasional roaches and pill bugs since we moved in. Maintenance has been very good about arranging to have exterminators treat our apt several times, but we still see the bugs from time to time. Its probably one of the worst things about place. I also caught one mouse since we moved in. I think there are more in the building because I think I have found evidence on occasion, but not like I had with the last mouse. The pet policy is nice because we wanted to get a dog when we moved in and got one about six months ago.
I don't mean to sound so negative because the place isn't really that bad. As you can see, I rated most things about it pretty average. The bugs, cheap kitchen cabinets, and air conditioning units are the worst things about it. The size of the apartments is nice. Management is always friendly and helpful. Pet policy also makes us happy. Maintenance is fantastic and they will often show up within an hour of a call.
The place is decent for the money. We may be here another year, not necessarily because we love it, but because its big, the price is fair, and its centralized between our jobs.
