DISGUSTING - Noise, Flooding, Ants, and Rodents

I never write these things, but in this case I will make an exception to save you pain and suffering.
The salesperson gives a great pitch, but the reality is something different entirely. First off, ask to check on your actual apartment before move in - we were greeted with the unpleasant surprise of a dirty apartment without the features of the model (even the toilet had a welcoming gift in it).
If you live on the ground floor, expect to be flooded several times a year. Our apartment has flooded three times and getting maintenance to repair the ceiling is impossible. They come at 3:00 AM to repair the busted pipes and then forget about replacing the ceiling. This last time we just gave up and are living with rough drywall as a ceiling in our bathroom.
This is our third winter here and the third winter with large rodents living above the ceiling. We have called numerous times each year only to be told they are working on it. It is nice to go to sleep hearing large rodents clawing at the ceiling or giving birth to their young.
At least the rodents mask the noise of the other apartments. There is zero insulation, so you hear EVERYTHING that your neighbors do and spend a pretty penny heating and cooling the great outdoors. They tell you the HVAC is new, but our gas bill is higher than friends with houses and we keep the thermostat at 68 degrees F.
Once it gets warm the ants swarm over the outside of the buildings and through every crack and crevice in the apartment - windows, ductwork, even the electrical outlets. It is funny how everytime we ask management to spray something comes up - either it rains, or the company did not show, etc.
On top of all this, the rent has increased by $90 in the last two years and we have had our cars broken into recently.
The place looks pretty, the parking is good, and the location is convenient to both I-83 and the beltway (which is why we are still here after three years of misery). We are both highly educated, fairly easy going people who dont require perfection to be satisfied. Do yourself a favor - this place is far from perfect, or even tolerable. Look elsewhere and do not get roped in by the good looks.
