After living here 4 years, I didn't have too many issues other than noise through the walls and some above me. Oh and the person next door had their place broken into. Then in July '07, new neighbor moved in above me who was up virtually all night and floor above me creaked all night. I tried to speak to her politely about it and she was very rude in return. I went to the rental office and spoke to the property mgr, Charlotte. When I asked if I could transfer to a top floor unit she said yes but it would increase my rent $75 month, I'd have to pay a $300 transfer fee and another security deposit of $250 (not to mention sign another 1 year lease even though I was about 3 months into my current one). This seemed unreasonable since I was a 4 year resident so I broke my lease and moved in w/my parents.
I thought I was done with the place until I received a bill one week after moving out for "new charges". These included $200 for a tub that was old and stained (the same as it was when I moved in although I foolishly didn't document that at the time. Also $25 each for cleaning the kitchen and bathroom, although I cleaned them both extensively before I left. $50 for them throwing away two tiny plastic tables I had forgotten in the utility closet and $32 for "removing the blinds". Why they have to remove blinds that were in good shape and the next resident would probably want, I don't know. When I went to the office to speak to the property mgr- a VERY rude, arrogant woman named Charlotte, I received nothing but a dismissive and uncaring attitude. She called my apartment "filthy" (which was an insult) and showed me pictures, that for all I know could have been of some other dirty apartment. How this woman is in what is a customer service position, I have no idea.
Don't be fooled by the smiles and warmth of these people when you are thinking about moving in- it's all phony. Once they get your name on that lease, you are treated like garbage. I am going to file a complaint with their corporate office and see if they are any better. If you are thinking of moving in, don't. If you do, make sure you are on the top floor. Otherwise if someone loud moves above you, you will be MISERABLE. If you already have, document every little item that is wrong, put all your requests in writing and DEMAND to do an apartment inspection WITH them before you leave. If you don't they will screw you.
