Overall, great, but a couple things to watch...

I've lived at Steeplechase on two separate occations. I lived here once for 6 months while I was buying a house and then again a few years later after I sold the house.

I think the apartment complex and the building and the unit itself are all great. My neighbors are either very nice or keep to themselves, and the amenities are great. I have a large dog and the neighborhood is very dog-friendly. When I moved in, the carpet was brand new, the linoleum was brand new and everything was very clean and fresh. One MAJOR plus is the copius amount of closet space! The one bedroom has TWO walk in closets plus the closet on the balcony for additional storage, (not to mention the coat closet and the linen closet!) I live on the top floor and haven't had any problems with noise. Washer/Dryer in unit is really great and it's right across the street from a shopping center with restaurant, convenience store, gym, & nail salon. The pool is fabulous and the little fitness center is great too!

The downsides -

1) The water bill is an average of the building which isn't fair because I am one person and I don't use the dishwasher (I wash my own dishes) so I use a lot less water than a couple.

2) The leasing office signed me up with an incentive deal (2 months free with a 14 month lease, plus $25 off rent) and then switched the price on me when they said that the $25 discount was never documented. And of course, I had no proof either. Plus, I was quoted a price that was for an interior unit (I have an end unit which has an extra window in the kitchen) and then when I showed up to sign the lease and it had a higher monthly rent. I had no idea that the end units were more expensive and I demanded they stick with the quoted rent price. They did fix that but I had to demand so (and then they made it sound like an "Accomodation" like they were being nice but really they bait and switched me) And the two months free, I still had to pay "pet rent" and nobody ever told me that either until I was assessed a late fee. Basically the leasing office and the business office don't talk and don't know what each other is doing. One piece of advise, GET DOCUMENTATION FROM THEM ON EVERYTHING!! Conduct your business via email or fax and make sure because the leasing consultants are very forgetful as to what they told you. If you have a conversation with them about a deal, make sure they confirm it in writing before you sign. And read your lease CAREFULLY and all other documents you sign! I had to have a paragraph stricken from one contract that said if I apply for an apartment and then decide not to take it (without signing any lease at all), I was responsible for 2 months rent! umm I don't think so!

3) Charlotte is an absolute -----. She's the property manager and has ZERO customer service skills. I am a very level headed and understanding person and she had me so irate over the three bait and switch issues that I was seeing red. I completely lost my cool with her and that takes ALOT to get me that angry.

4) Be careful about making sure you let them know your renewal status. If you don't advise them if you are staying or going, they automatically renew your lease for a 2 year term!

But all in all, it's a great place to live as long as you avoid the business office! Maintenance issues have been quickly fixed, parking is never an issue, neighborhood is clean and well maintained. I definitely think this is one of the best values in Cockeysville for the location, price and amenities. Outdoor lighting could be improved... there are a lot of dark spots at night.
