Hello - I am considering purchasing a condo unit at Parkside to rent and would like to hear from the residents or management concerning the units. My daughter is looking for a place to live close to campus. I have not found any tenant reviews on Parkside lately since the renovation of the building. Please let me know your concerns, likes, dislikes and any suggestions. Any input would be appreciated! Thank you.

I would only purchase if prices were below 220K, since values in college park are declining and probably will continue to decline for a little while. Consider purchasing a single family house instead because the rents are much higher, and you can pick up a property for about 300K. I do a lot of investments - so for more info just email me - alexcgri@gmail.com Thanks Alex

I would say purchasing a house is a much better idea and investment if your daughter intends to be here for more than two years. I've recently graduated from UMD and between my friends and myself I've heard about or lived in the majority of housing options. I've found renting a house (especially an apartment in a house) is a much better option for the money then the apartments. If you don't want to go with purchasing a house I would consider renting in "the commons". They're the on-campus housing units that are basically apartments. The twp biggest problems I've had with living off campus are safety and the other people. Safety is a major issue if you're living in College Park - guys attempt to follow you home, there muggings on and off campus, there was a car jacking at 7pm the summer I lived in Courtyards, and there's been a man breaking into rooms and molesting girls. This year I opted to live in Beltsville (10-15 minute drive to campus) - I have never once felt unsafe. As far as people goes it is the typical issues: loud, leaving trash in the halls, throwing up in the halls, smoking in rooms even though it is not allowed, ect. The commons has people that actually monitor the place and it is all students so it is pretty safe.
