You'll regret it...

I moved to Columbia from College Park after graduation, so anything looked better than that ghetto. My boyfriend and I put down $$ to hold a specific apartment on a certain day, which was the day I had to move out of my old place. We called several times before move in to make sure everything was ready. They were sketchy and wouldn't let us sign a lease ahead of time. When we showed on move-in day, they said we weren't supposed to be there for another 2 weeks and then they gave us a completely different apartment then what we asked for. Different floor, more rent. Should have walked away but had no where to go! Lesson learned, DO NOT trust Jen in the leasing office. Look at the apartment and sign the lease before moving day!! That was just the start...
We're on the first floor. Honestly, we still had a lot of space and the place didn't seem so bad. After about a month the problems started. There must have been a flood at some point in the past because all the wood around the doors is rotted at the floor. This means bad insulation (our BGE bill was $200 in January and we were NOT warm). Putting plastic over the windows helped. The appliances are circa 1972 and we have had two of them replaced so far. After replacing the dishwasher the countertop was falling apart. Ha and when we had our dishwasher replaced we came home to find it sitting in the middle of the living room. Same with the dryer.
Here's the best part! So many bugs. Google "house centipede". That image is what you'll have to live with the entire time you are here. Honestly I could live with most of the other problems here but I draw the line at those gigantic things. You will have to kill several a week. Those are in addition to camelback crickets and wolf spiders. Yeah, wolf spiders are the ones that eat sparrows. Even my boyfriend shrieked when he saw that one, and he's the one that's been killing all these bugs.
We thought we could escape with just bugs but no, now there's mice! They chewed their way through the wall under the kitchen sink and stuffed a plastic grocery bag and foil in the hole to keep the area warm, then made a bed on the hand towels. The "regular exterminator" (what's that say about the apartment) sprayed but AC won't do anything about the holes.
Right now I'm listening to my neighbors fighting out in the stairwell at 1am. Oh lovers spat, how sweet! He must have really screwed up because she locked him out.
Okay so really you get what you pay for. If you're the section 8 type than this is for you but if you can manage to pay a little more in Columbia go somewhere else. I think it's about the most space you'll get for the least amount of $$ in Columbia, but that's not always best. You're monthly rent will go up $100 a month after a year, which is such a rip off for this place. We're moving in a month to a smaller apartment for more rent, no question. uWDgQKY3Vkv8FKIsB8Ax

"Section 8 Type than this is for you"???? What makes you think that just because someone needs rental assistance than they deserve to live in a insect infested dump. At least us ghetto section 8 renters know that you first inspect the apartment and sign the lease days in advance or you don't move in at all. I guess just because you can afford market value of an apartment, it doesn't mean that you have common sense. FYI: Thought you would like to know that AC does not have many section 8 renters because the program allows the tenants to live in the more expensive apartments in Columbia.
