Affordable and pleasant place to live in, for the most part

THE GOOD
-Parking. No matter what time or day, there is always parking close to my building. I've never seen a place with so many available parking spaces.
-Large rooms. I've lived in about five different apartments and townhouses in the area for about ten years. Autumn Crest has, by far, the largest rooms I've seen (with the exception of the kitchen).
-Hot water. There is so much hot water that my family finds it hard to cool off the water. Seriously, we feel like we're going to get practically burned.
-Safety. I feel safe walking my dog at about 11pm at nights. I've never seen any sketchy-looking people just "hanging out" at any hour.
-Nice staff. The people that work here could not be any nicer. Usually maintenance gets the job done, as long as it's not a major one.
-Fair price. This is probably the most affordable apartment in Columbia (without, you know, bullet holes).
-Recently painted and re-carpeted. I've lived in two different apartments here in Autumn Crest: a two-bed and a three-bed. Both had new carpets and the paint appeared new.
-Water. I don't pay the bills, but as far as I know, water is included. Only electricity is charged.
-Washer and dryer. If you have a family with over three people, you will find that the W&Ds are pretty small. But, for the price that one pays for the apartments, W&Ds on the actual apartments are hard to find.
THE BAD
-Poorly-insulated windows. The windows just do not keep out the frost. I have to use duct tape and an insulation kit. If you put your hands close to the windows, you can feel the wind (not breeze).
-Old, but working, appliances. Most of the appliances are from the 80s. The ovens are old, but are very VERY effective. I have a hard time trying to get it to lower temperatures. The air conditioning is noisy, but my room gets unbearably hot in the winters (though my sister's room is very cold). So the AC works just fine, for some rooms.
-Lots of children and dogs. I noticed that a LOT of people here are dog-owners. That can be bad at an early Sunday when you are trying to sleep-in and you are awakened by the neighbor's barking dog. The children aren't disruptive, but I personally don't like children.
-Noisy floors. That goes without saying for apartments, but if the person above you walks noisily, you will hear every single step.
-Sex offender. There's a registered sex offender on the apartments. (Check at http://www.familywatchdog.us) I've personally never seen him around and am not too worried. (According to the website, he committed an "offense against children" and ironically he's on the apartment directly in front of the playground ... huh...)
-Around bad neighborhood. Autumn Crest itself is very safe and respectable, for the most part. However, the apartments around it are not. But I've never felt unsafe.
-Small kitchen. The kitchen is very small and has very few cabinets and little storage space.
-Sometimes slow maintenance. Let me just say that the maintenance people are very friendly. But sometimes it takes a while for the to get the problem fixed. It's not their fault; they're just understaffed, I think. The job gets done, eventually.
THE UGLY
-Roaches. SOME apartments here have roaches; some more than others. I lived in a two-bed here, and I've NEVER seen so many roaches in my life (and I grew up in a third-world country!). They were all in the kitchen. Dozens of them. We had pest control about every week, and then later the roaches made themselves cozy in the bedrooms. However, we moved to a roach-free three-bed. So it all depends on the building.
BOTTOM LINE:
Obviously, this is only one person's view. Other people have had different experiences with Autumn Crest, but I can tell you that mine has been a positive one. People who are rude and who have bad intentions live EVERYWHERE (sorry to break it to you) so of course it's expected that some people have had bad experiences with trespassers. If you want a white-picket fence, perfect neighborhood with absolutely no crime or annoyances at an affordable price, you might as well slit your throat and cross your fingers for a utopian afterlife.
Feel free to email me with any questions.
