and i've lived at a few apartment communities. yeah the rent seems a little higher, compared to some other areas, but you get what you pay for. i really like the area (there are a lot of dog owners, like me, here) and the golf course is pretty. i've met a lot of cool people in the gym, but i wish they would set up a sign-up sheet for the tanning bed, there always seems to be someone in there when i want to tan! i never feel unsafe here, even though sometimes i have to walk a bit to my apartment from my parking space at night. and the staff (esp. maintenance) is really great, except sometimes it's difficult to get a hold of the office (but if I leave a message they always get back to me). my apartment is one of the new ones and i'm a cook so i love the new appliances in the kitchen. if the renovated isn't your thing i think they have ones that aren't renovated, and they are cheaper. Speaking as a long-term Columbia resident, take my advice: BEWARE of the cheaper communities around here, you get what you pay for!! avalon is really close to the mall so there's always something to do, but it's still safe (not like the sketchy hannibal up the street... don't go to that 7-11 at night!)
