First off the below reviews are pretty exaggerated at some parts. I will agree that maintenance previously took far too long to respond to simple requests for basic service. It is important to note that seems to be solved now with the change in management the previous posters spoke of.
Cedar Valley was bought-out from the old team by AvalonBay, which is a very large company that owns tons of apartments all over the country. In the weeks since that purchase, I have noticed the following:
A. A letter to a resident regarding a noise complaint I had to make was sent out immediately letting them know that the TV in their apartment (and organ or whatever it was) was turned way too high. It was shaking my building.
B. The next day, problem wasn t fixed. I went to visit the new manager, and he came in person with me to my unit to listen to the noise level. He agreed the noise was way too loud. He contacted the resident again, that very day, and the problem has been MUCH MUCH better since.
This is basic service, but it impressed me because I had asked the old manager to do this on more than one occasion, and the problem was never taken care of. She never even updated me on what was happening.
Someone earlier said they were upset that she was fired. What' How' Why' Did you ever NEED anything from the office' She was the most unprofessional, unpolished person I ve ever met in the landlord business and that is SAD because there are some pretty bad people in that biz. It is also important to point out that AvalonBay did not fire her, as the previous poster claims. In order to fire someone, they first have to work with you.
In inquired about her whereabouts from the current manager, and he told me that she was not hired by AvalonBay for the manager role. And, she apparently was not retained by her original company (JMG) at another property. So, in other words, she was laid off by JMG after the sale. She never worked for AvalonBay for a single day.
Moreover there was a neon blue lounge chair that looked like it was from some disco in the lad s office, a BED (yes, you read right a BED) in the other lady s office and a cornucopia of absolute crap out in their main area you enter the office from. I have lived in four apartment complexes in Maryland now, and that was by far the worst office I have EVER seen.
Upon a visit to the office last week, I noticed that ALL of that is gone, and everything looks different and far more professional.
Onto the stuff that matters I agree that there are sketchy, shady people that live here. Most people are nice, but there are some bad apples in almost every building. During my talk with the new manager about two weeks back, I was told that I should notice solid improvements over the coming year in all parts of the community. Sounds vague but promising, still.
My apartment, contrary to the previous poster, is NOT falling apart. My floors are quite solid (I would argue that this old construction is better than the shabby new construction I have lived in at other places), my appliances are aged but work perfectly, and my carpet and walls are in good shape.
If I could pick things to improve here, they would be as follows:
1. No fitness center, no pool or any resident amenities. I would love to see this change, but doubt it will. Even with AvalonBay talking about renovations, I somehow see too many $$$ signs floating near those ideas.
2. Newer appliances. Mine work, but they are very, very cheap and old.
3. Open more days. The office is closed now two days a week. AvalonBay extended the hours so they are open until 7PM, but I think being open 7 days a week is not too much to ask.
4. A cleaning of the ghetto neighbors that live here. Again, most people here are nice but the bad ones need to be kicked out somehow.
I am hesitant to hit the "I would recommend to others" button, but I will do it only under the assumption that this place will improve as promised by the new owners.
