Don't see how anyone can possible hate it...

When I search for Columbia apartments and rank by percent recommended....CTC doesn't even show up on the first page which is mind boggling. All the other apartments in Columbia are s**tholes (except for the Gramercy probably...) judging by my tour of them.
Anyway, the place is expensive but you get what you pay for. It is so freakin quiet its kind of weird. I am right out of college so I know I'm the noisiest one, but sometimes I think my neighbors may have died inside or something - I know someone is renting them out because the parking spaces are full.
I went with CTC because:
A) It still feels brand new. New means everything is sparkly and clean and you don't feel depressed walking in your house.
B) It costs a few hundred less for the aforementioned s**tholes and maybe $50-$100 less than some of the higher grade s**tholes that offer "renovated" apartments.
C) Lots of small things that make it nice: 9 foot ceilings with crown molding, a HUGE bathroom with a garden tub, nice counter-tops etc etc.
I was either gonna go with the Avalon at Fairways with one of their renovated apartments for slightly less $$. But then tack on another $25/month for the one time amenity fee and the required insurance and it is almost the same for an older, not as nice apartment.
Oh, and no one is ever in the fitness center or the pool. And the pool is REALLY nice in the summer since it has a bunch of tables and chairs kind of lining the shade, but that can easily be pulled out into the sun.
One more thing...I live in the smallest 1BR (777sqft or so') alone and am extremely energy efficient I think. Heat/AC gets turned off when I go to work and sometimes all weekend when I'm at my girlfriends. Gas is about $50/month and electricity about $50/month in peak seasons. So figure how much yours might be based on that. One of the things people don't realize when they rent these other apartments (read s**tholes) is that they're 20-40 years old and the HVAC system is extremely inefficient. I'd be pretty pissed if I saved a few hundred a month only to find that my energy bill was $200-300...
CONS:
-price
-size(its tinnnny)
-guiltiness (I feel bad when I'm makin as much noise as my whole building combined)
I highly recommend...I am probably leaving in the spring to a new area ONLY because I'd like to start saving for a house and $1300 seems crazy for a 1BDR.
