Consider Living Elsewhere

I have lived here for several years but was preparing to move out recently and had not renew my lease. The management at the community I had chosen to move to made an error, making it too late to give moving notice in time to be in compliance with the current lease. I chose this development initially for its proximity to work, the mall, the lake, Merriweather among other things; but the place is small, and I sacrificed closet and room space. Initially I liked it very much. Security gates were a plus (I thought they would be "working" security gates. I expected for the money that is charged it would be well run and the management would be attentive to making it a quality community. Management changed again about a year ago. New management requires that if you do not renew your lease and go month-to-month, you have to pay a $200-$300 monthly surcharge on top of a heavy rental fee. If you sign a new lease, be prepared to sign multiple documents to not hold the management responsible for a laundry list of problems and situations. Security gate is always left open - not their problem. Break-ins and other security issues--not their problem. Even home invasions (you heard me). While I recogize personal responsibility, they don't plan to take any steps to attempt to provide any safeguards or security on the premises. The towing company used to be vigilant, which I personally appreciated because if I had a problem with my assigned spot, they were there. Now everyone parks here with no guest passes, in whatever spot they damn well feel like. No parking tag on your car--no problem. Didn't bother to get a guest pass--no problem. You won't get booted. For those who seem to think this is Nirvana, there are those of us who have been awakened at all hours of the night by drunken brawls in neighboring apartments. Blaring music. The number of people who live here but who are not on the lease and didn't have to undergo a credit check or so-called background check have been rampant. Want to dump your beat up, unwanted furniture without the responsibility of taking it a landfill' No problem, dump it at the dumpster. A HUGE problem: people who drive through this community and through garages at beltway super speed, squealing tires while hurtling around the corners, and forcing people attempting to drive through safely and people walking their dogs, their children, pushing baby carriages, to dive for their life. They should have speed bumps everywhere, including inside the garages; the police should patrol these garages. Seriously, someone is going to get killed or maimed on these premises. Does management care' Hell no. Does management know about the problem. Hell yes. County law requires dog owners to have their dogs on a leash; to clean up after the dogs. How many do I see complying with either' One out of 10. Move in, then bring in your roommates who aren't on the lease with their dogs, don't pay a pet fee, then let them bark and crap all over the place. These problems have been growing and intensifying. I will be moving out of here when my current lease expire.

I have lived here since 2005 and I guess it all depends on what building and what side of the community you live. I have never heard brawls in the halls. People don't race through the garage. People dump their furniture at dumpsters. Its not right, I've never done it, but it DOES happen. And most likely, it not done by people who reside here. If you notice there are dishwashers and refrigerators being dumped, there is no need for anyone to dispose of something like that here, so its being done by others who don't reside. And if you see things, report it. If you know there is high traffic or overcrowding at an apartment, report it. You live here take responsibility. The community members must be the eyes and ears so that the management team can act. Stop being a passive victim and do something.

I have lived here for 2 years, and I have to completely agree with the initial review above. The management team, old and new, are the worst customer support staff I have ever come in to contact with in any industry. I have had several instances of needing support with maintenance related issues, and had no response whatsoever. I have had EMERGENCY service needs, with gas and electrical issues, that were not responded to until the next day if at all. When I've finally got a hold of someone at the office (Management included) there is no sense from any individual there that they care about my situation. They actually all act put-off and troubled by me asking for help with issues they are responsible for fixing. This is not a place that cares about their residents, this is a place that cares about getting people in and signed to leases. It's only about the money, don't let them fool you when introducing you to the community...learn from my mistake! Individuals such as myself choose to pay higher rent at a place like this, in attempts to avoid the headaches, frustrations, and safety issues that are smothered across the Columbia Town Center apartments, it's not worth it.
