if you like garbage...

the apartment itself is quite nice, and reasonable (I suppose) for the area. the problems are as follows:
* pot-scented hallways
* counters that stain with the first cup of coffee or tea
* only one dumpster for the ENTIRE back of the complex. if that isn't a health violation, I don't know what is. garbage ends up lining the curb through the entire area. they give you a song and dance if you mention it upon move-in that they are "trying to get in a new dumpster," but what they mean is "we like to prevaricate, and will continue to flap gum until you drop this line of questions. who needs garbage disposal, anyway'"
* The maintenance people. while nice, they seem to generally break as much as they fix. I suppose this makes sense, as the place seems to employ new ones each month.
* The "emergency maintenance" number. it is a joke. they have never once returned my call. ever. regardless of problem.
* office people. it isn't that they are mean. it is that they are totally incapable of getting anything done. I have called with maintenance reports and never once had a follow-up call. I have tried to talk to them about rent, but they are not there. for some reason, no one will claim this as their actual property... they all work at Dominion at King's contrivance... or anywhere else to avoid having to take responsibility for something.
* the parking--as previously stated, there is a park across the street--and it gets really dangerous to pull out of your own parking lot when any of the MILLION games are going on that everyone had to drive the minivan to. there is also a high risk of denting your car with one of the idiot pedestrians who are apparently focused on getting in to the game.
* last thing, somewhat unrelated, but IMPORTANT. the local grocery store. understaffed and understocked. you cannot go there to buy one thing and hope to get out in 45 minutes. there are almost always HUGE lines. I know that it is not a direct correlation, but part of the reason that I moved here was that I could walk to the grocery store, and thus far it has frustrated me far more than relaxed me.
it really looks good. it really seems good. it really isn't so great.
