I read the negative comments about apartments but I'm willing to compromise on some things because this is communal living after all. It's a great apt for the price in Columbia which is an beautiful community!

I just moved in and my apartment is large and management has been great so far...

The problem are the low-life, section 8 folks! Damn.... Groups of listless teenage boys and girls sitting at the kiddy park smoking joints or just walking around with hoodies on and looking like are bad news; women and men with du-rags on walking through the green area in slippers, pajamas and drinking from 40 oz malt liquor bottles(they even leave the bottles in the grass); the loud as bass/latin music about 10am on the weekends; working on cars in the parking lot; and the frequent inability to push the damn trash all the way in the dumpster.

I just don't understand why you throw trash anywhere, feel the need to sit on teh stoop, smoke, and toss your cigarette in the grass and create a whole living room setting on your balcony.

Poverty is a -----!!! I left DC to get away from this element and still find afforable housing. It's obvious that the element is in Columbia throughout all the apartments dotting Harper's Farm Road.

It would be a nicer commmunity if Home Properties would be a little more restrictive about who rents there, more middle class and grad school students. AND you can tell the types easily.........

Highly recommend because the apt can't be beat but don't expect to be hanging out with your community members. I come home and stay inside.........

First of all not everybody who wears a du-rag is bad. My husband wears one and he's no "thug" or "gangsta" or anything else bad. Second off we're moving there to get off section 8 and as you should know Columbia is expensive and not everybody has college degrees. I'm very offended by your review and while you didn't specify any specific race I got the feeling you were talking about black people. Sorry they don't wanna live in the ghetto like all the others! Maybe if there was more things for children to do they wouldn't just be sitting around the neighborhoods. Maybe you should try and get to know the people in your community. They probably aren't as bad as you think. But you wouldn't know that because you've never tried.

The big news is that I am black so that should dismiss any notion about the white commentary. Education, number of children and being on or off Section 8 is a non-issue. Take care of your children and it's not up to the apartment residents to "get to know" anybody beyond a cheerful hello. AND if your children aren't throwing garbage everywhere, breaking bottles, working on cars every evening and roaming around spray painting the walls, then you should not be so offended. Perhaps you haven't experienced the young men sitting on the stairwells with 40 ounce bottles, splashing the beer all over the landing?? That's really somebody I want to get to know after a long day at the office! Does that sound like child supervision I should be concerned with just because I pay rent like you??!! And to suggest that an apartment community is responsbible for residents' kids entertainment, you've got to kidding me! That's your job, girlfriend! We all have a right to live peacefully and without roaming groups of young men with nothing better to do... And get over the college degree/education/must be a white person because I'm intelligent. Get it together and stop making everybody else responsible.
