Apartments in the high rise were decent. Various things fell into disrepair. The carpet was in bad shape, the cupboards didn't close, and beneath the sink (which had a tendency to leak), the wood was stained and close to rotting. Phone jacks were broken. The bath faucets weren't sealed correctly to the wall, so again, leaking was an issue. The bathrooms always smelled odd, almost like cigarettes, no matter if air fresheners were used.
Maintenence took about 2-3 days to respond to any issues, despite a "We'll be there within 24 hours" promise. However, once they did show up, they did get things fixed.
Noise was an issue, you could hear anyone talking/walking through hallways, and could hear things going on from different floors above and below. Walls were thing and if anyone was outside talking, you could hear them clearly. An apartment with a band could clearly be heard in the mornings/early afternoons/whenever they decided to play.
Groups had a tendency to hang around the parking lots and drink late at night, and often the parking lot was not adequately lit for safety (Flood lights have now been put up, so that issue is better). Parking lot was decent, and recently paved. Parking wasn't a big issue, although getting one of the limited spots near the high rise was difficult sometimes.
They went through a huge rennovation of the elevators and such, and those are great, but there's still a lot of work they need to do. The high rise was not very handicapped friendly at the front entrance, despite the large number of elderly residents.
The office staff was nice, there were never any issues with them, and they helped me out when I needed.
Police were often at the complex. While the area is nice, I did not feel safe even walking to the nearby grocery store. The grounds and landscaping were indeed nice though, as Columbia is naturally a lovely place.
Residents had a tendency to leave trash around instead of disposing of it properly. Floods were a common occurance in the laundry rooms.
In all, If you can afford better, consider elsewhere. But if it's all you can manage at the time, prepare to deal with a lot of cumulative issues.
