Bugs and bed bugs are still a problem

I haven't had too many issues with the neighbors; nothing worse than you might find at any given apartment. I have not had personal issues with the staff. I love the location and convenience to Columbia, Baltimore and DC. But I can't live with these bed bugs.
My roommate and I moved in to a garden apartment last year. It seemed ideal; great price and great location. A few months after moving in, however, my roommate began finding bug bites on her arms and torso. We had no idea what we were dealing with until very recently; it is a full blown infestation of parasitic bugs.
I was shocked to find reviews on this site dating back TWO YEARS that complained of bed bug problems. I cannot believe Aimco is hiding this dirty secret from prospective lease holders. It is shameful to do business in this way; they are being irresponsible not only with their property, but with the health of the individuals they charge to live here.
I had never seen a bed bug before moving into this place, and I am completely horrified by them. I haven't had a decent night's sleep in weeks, and my roommate is being eaten alive. I am afraid that the furniture I bought new just a few months ago will have to be thrown out, and we are collectively out of God only knows how much money in plastic bags, mattress encasements, and other products we have tried to keep us safe. We are afraid to move and take these little monsters with us, but we cannot live like this.
As an aside, when parking regulations changed recently, both my car and a car belonging to a guest were towed from what a lease agent assured us was a "visitor's lot." That alone cost nearly $400, just to get our cars back from a junk-yard lot in Baltimore owned by the tow company.
This place might be fine if not for the bugs, but if you move here you are exposing yourself to insects that literally feed on your blood. The unethical way in which these apartments have been leased should be illegal.
***I came back to edit this review: I will say, to the credit of the current staff, as soon as we informed them of the infestation in our apartment, we were put on the schedule for treatment. We have received regular pest treatment every two weeks since this ordeal began, and coupled with our own efforts, there has been a noticeable difference in the population of bed bugs. Alas, it is not over yet; we still find stray bugs coming out of the walls.
I stand by my previous statement, and I'm quite sore to have spent so much money on this apartment and pest control needs. The real solution is to treat the entire building, but I have seen no evidence that this is taking place. I wish the tenants and the management the best luck; we won't be coming back.

I am sorry that you had to go through this ordeal, I experienced the same thing at Grande Point in 2006. I only stayed in my apt for a few months and I was out of there! I could no longer bare the bed bugs. I lost sleep and stayed up fearing that I was gonna get bitten! I was a mental wreck (luckily my children did not have a reaction to bed bug bites)and at first I thought that I was going crazy. The staff is FULLY aware of the bed bug problem. I recommend contacting Resident Relations through the Aimco website or call them, that's what I did and I got results...I GOT OUT OF MY LEASE AND GOT THE HELL OUT OF THERE, AND HAVEN'T BEEN BITTEN BY A BED BUG SINCE, THANK GOD!
