i recently moved from here after 2 years. i too was deceived by the "friendly" staff at this place. Before they get you to sign the lease they are very friendly and put on a smile. once you stuck in the lease and deal with these people on a regular basis you will learned that it is all just an act.
Pros:
*Very large living space. the place is huge but this can also be a downfall because the people in the complex pack anywhere between 5-10 friends and family members into a 2 bedroom and then they all take up the parking spaces
*Excellent on pest control. had a major roach problem when i moved in. the exterminator came out twice a month for two months and the problem went away and never came back. they have the best pest control than any of my previous apartment complexes
*landscaping is lovely, very well kept by a company that hires illegals that stare into your apartment while they are mowing the lawn
*shopping right across the street was very convenient. deli town offers breakfast all day long, delicious, just don't order the waffle it is an ego waffle for $5

Con:
*Deceiving staff, when I asked about my previous tenants and any pest problems I was told that all was good, after move in, the apartment had a serious roach problem and another staff member informed me that the previous tenant had 8 people living in my apartment and the place was filthy when they left and that was why i had roaches.
*Old appliances, some apartments are remodeled, mine was not. I do not care if my appliances are old i just want them to work properly. In this case my garbage disposal was about 15 years old and got clogged by regular crumbs in it. I was told that if it got clogged again i will have to pay for the repairs and to put a strainer in my sink so that no food goes down the drain. what the ---- is a garbage disposal for then'' be very careful with these greedy landlords, they weren't getting anymore $ out of me so i ran the disposal the entire time while washing dishes hopefully i burned up the motor for these cheap bastards.
*they advertise that they have a playground. too bad the playground is never clean and has graffiti all over everything.
*don't take trash out at night. couple of months ago a woman got robbed doing this (don't know how this happened, who takes their wallet out when taking the trash out, anyway not very safe at night, very dark, needs brighter street and building lights
*parking sucks as mentioned above plus if handicapped you are ----ed. watched my handicap neighbors fight with management and police to get cars removed from marked spaces. management was told to put up extra handicap parking signs by the police so that the police would be able to tow the -------s who were parking in the spaces. guess what happened' this was two years ago and management still hasn't put up the signs and cops were still getting called out every 3 months for this problem.
*very hot water. the hot water continues to get hotter during use. after being burned in the shower 2 times i checked the temperature, it was 140 degrees. i asked the leasing office to fix this because it is only supposed to go up to 120 degrees. my request got ignored several times and i just started taking cool showers to avoid the burns
*very stingy on parking passes you only get one for every car you have registered and none, 0, zilch for visitors. they will tell you that they tow regularly but if they do then why are there tag-less cars sitting in the parking lot for over two months.
*the neighborhood is ghetto. i have lived in the ghetto of dc before moving to Columbia and there is no difference. when there was an ice storm over the winter i watched a young thug slip and fall several times in front of my apartment trying to push a shopping cart on an 1/2 inch of ice(there was only 1 bag in the shopping cart so i guess he was to lazy to carry it) I also consider this a pro because it is good entertainment seeing what these ignorant ------- will do.
*neighbors are disrespectful. somebody actually took a ---- in the hallway last year and it took 3 days for somebody to clean it up, they always come home after drinking on fri/sat and piss in the hallway. everybody blast their music, on any given day i can hear polka, rock and reggaeton. big dogs are allowed(i believe pit bulls are restricted in Howard county but many live here anyway) and they take a large dump on the lawn and the owners just leave it there for everybody else to step in.
*the price is wonderful but had expensive gas heating. had to pay gag bill to leasing office instead of outside company. this caused two main problems: 1: cannot get any type of heating assistance and 2: the maintenance closet in the apartments are locked and if you think the gas gauge is broken you cannot look, i had maintenance come check it and they said it was fine. i was suspect and called outside company, they fixed the problem and my bill went down by over $100 a month. leasing just trying to suck more money out!!!

***I loved the layout of the apartment. Very large living room, master bedroom and spare bedroom. In 2 bedroom have have option of 2 full baths or 1 bath with storage space. I took storage space and loved it, it was the size of a large closet. Very nice vanity in the master bedroom. Kitchen is nice, take remodeled option. The old kitchen are ok but most have warped cabinets, very small ovens and stained counters. the "ranch room" is a lovely bonus, it gives you plenty of decorating options. has washer/dryer in every unit but are awkwardly placed. the bathrooms are on the small side. If you are looking for a spacious apartment and don't care about service then this is the place for you. after two years i had to get out!

Finally i just want to let everybody know about section 8. the neighbors i had that were on sec 8 were clean, polite and took more pride in their home than full paying tenants. there are no specific apartments reserved for section 8 and housing is not free the rent is just reduced. Sec 8 people can live in almost all apartments in Columbia. low income does not make you dirty and ghetto and cause all the problems at an apartment complex. stop blaming section 8 for all problems in Columbia, most of these people are just trying to make a living and need rental assistance.
