Many of the reviews seem similar and light on specifics.
So here's actual experience from a resident, in a pro/con list:
Cons -
- Thin floors and walls.
You can hear people walking around on the floor above you if they are wearing hard soles.
You can hear domestic disputes and TV's through the walls.
- Showers are very weak during peak hours, like 6-9 AM.
It seems like when everyone is using the shower, the water pressure is dramatically reduced.
The ceiling above the shower is high and during peak hours, the shower is quite weak.
Not conducive to getting that hot, steamy shower in the morning on a cold day.
Off peak times, the showers are adequate.
- You can hear people pee on the floor above toilet.
It's weird.
Some sort of plumbing design problem.
It's almost like it's amplified somehow.
Very loud late at night, when things are quiet.
Disconcerting.
- Some of the leasing office staff consider themselves "motivated salespeople." As a result, the information they provide may be less accurate than one would expect.
Keep that in mind and you won't have any surprises.
- HVAC units are loud.
You kinda get used to this though.
- Odors.
If someone smokes on the balcony above or around you, it frequently will get into your apartment.
Weird hallway odors can do the same.
Pros -
- The cleaning staff keeps the building and grounds clean.
- Maintenance staff responds quickly to problems.
- Building looks nice.
- Sufficient parking.
The reality is that I'm on the fence with recommending the place.
It's okay.
But I do want people to have a clear idea of what they're getting into.
The glowing reviews don't provide much information about the building.

I don't understand how you can say that the walls and floors are thin. This is by far the most quiet apartment that I have ever lived in. Sometimes we hear loud noises from upstairs, but that's about it. You must live in the freakish apartment that is different from the rest. I will admit that the water pressure is not great, but ours is consistent no matter when you shower. And if you're not getting a hot steamy shower, then maybe there's a problem with your water heater. It's not like we share water heaters or anything like that. We each have our own. I can run my dishwasher and get in the shower right afterwards, and still have hot water. This place isn't perfect, but it's the best apartment in which I have lived. You think the noise is bad here, try living in The Seasons in Laurel.....now there's some bad insulation. Club Merion is like a church compared to there. |

I'd agree that the HVAC is loud. If I'm watching tv I always have to adjust the sounds when it comes on to hear it. Then when it goes off I'll have to turn the tv down otherwise the tv sounds really loud. If you have surround sound this might not be as big of a deal though... As for thin floors/walls, I'd disagree. I only occasionally hear people walking around above me, otherwise I don't hear anyone else. As for the showers, the pressure is a little on the weak side, but it's always been consistent for me.
As for the staff, they are extremely nice, however in my one maintenance problem I was disappointed. They were quick to note what the general problem was, however seemed completely uninterested in the specifics which resulted in nothing actually being done to remedy my problem.

I agree that depending on who lives above you, you can sometimes hear people walking around or dropping things, but it's no worse than if you live in a house and you are in the basement with someone upstairs. As for the bathrooms, yes you can hear people when you're in there but like I said before, you'll get that in a house too. As for the showers, everyone has their OWN water heater, no one shares water heaters and therefor, if you have low pressure, it's cause either you have something else running at the time, or you're water heater is not working properly. As for the HVAC units, some are better than other. My husband and I lived in one apartment there where the HVAC was very loud, but the ones around us now and very quiet.
I do agree that smells from outside come in quite easily and several of the tenants like to smoke, so you might get some of that, but generally only if the window is open. The old apartment we were in had the problem where the tenants downstairs smoked inside and the smoke smells traveled up to our apartment through the HVAC, but maintenance tried to fix it and has since sent out notices to not smoke indoors unless windows are open and you're standing next to it.
Maintenance is very quick to respond. Management is very nice, there are a few employees who just want to do what they need to do, but the manager and asst. manager are very nice and the asst. manager lives in the building (same with maintenance) and I don't know about the manager. Cleaning crew comes during the week days while most people are at work, so most tenants aren't bothered. Also, management throws 4 parties a year and had donuts for everyone in the main lobby every Saturday morning, which I was surprised by when we moved in.
Finally, my husband and I have been living in Club Merion since December 2006 and we are very happy.
