There are other nice places in this area. I would not recommend moving here.
Someone else mentioned the fact that you can hear people using the bathroom. Another person mentioned that the water pressure is low at peak times. These things are true. Also, the hot water runs out pretty quickly. When I mentioned it to maintenance, I was told that the hot water heater is small. I can't even run a full tub of water in the master bath and the water in the second bathroom is lukewarm. There is carpet in the dining area so, if you have children or messy visitors, the carpet gets dirty quite easily and is difficult to clean. The appliances are old. Also, like another reviewer, I had the experience of items getting scorched in the dryer. I don't think that you get value for the amount of rent they charge.
All of these reasons are sufficient for me not to recommend Merion Apartments to potential renters, however, my number one reason for not recommending this facility is THE OFFICE STAFF. They are unfriendly, unprofessional and rude. They must not have received the "choose civility" memo. I know other people have mentioned how friendly they are; that has not been my experience and I have to wonder how many other people they were unpleasant to who decided not to mention the nasty behavior. Also, another reviewer mentioned the possibility that the positive reviews were written by office staff; I wouldn't be surprised if this was true. Where there's smoke there's fire as the saying goes; I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who has had this experience with Merion management.
The benefits of this community, such as lovely grounds and efficient maintenance are not enough to outweigh having to deal with a management that is so rude. Don't move here. There are other communities in Columbia with friendly office staff. I'm moving out as soon as I can.
