Relatively Good

This is a pretty good spot, so the negative reviews are a little surprising. Granted, some people can have a bad experience, but some people just whine about nothing. Parking can be a problem anywhere, unless you have a house with a driveway. Unless you have a disability (and in which case they will reserve a spot for you) complaints about walking to your building are insane. I've never had to walk more than the length of a city block in four years of living there. If you can't handle walking a few steps at all, maybe this isn't the place or planet for you. Really, it's other residents who pose the most problems, not the complex. Note how many people don't bother to shovel snow around their cars and gladly steal clean spots as soon they're available, leaving their mess for someone else to deal with. We've seen people with SUVs do it, which would be hilarious if not so pathetic. Surely these are the same people that are whining about how far they have to walk after they park their cars (30 yards! OH NO!), or about how they're cat almost died after they failed to protect it by securing a pet sitter. Sure, a bad situation, but a little preparation on the resident would have avoided the outcome.

Noise is unfortunately part of the territory in any apartment complex--we all take our chances. Management could definitely be more proactive on that front. We've had mixed success with that and with maintenance issues, but it's A LOT better than another complex we lived in years ago. I've had many addresses and a number of landlords, and I have to say Poplar Glen is among the best.

Otherwise, it's one of the few apartment complexes with balconies and ample porches, it's relatively attractive, and it's set in Clary's Forrest, away from uglier parts of Columbia. It doesn't look like a strip mall or make you want to drink Drano just looking at it.

Could be better, definitely, but could be a lot worse.
