Thrill Is Gone

My fiance and I were really thrilled when we saw the model apartment home prior to choosing Reflections. I can't recall if the model had the marble cabinets in the kitchen when we first saw it, BUT we were told all apartments will have them starting in March 2008.
Prior to us moving in I read the reviews because that's what we do to get a total feel for the complex. Even though there were some negative reviews I still felt good about moving to Reflections. Now let me tell you what I think now.
We were told the previous tenants lived there for seventeen years, which meant some items I'm sure were worned and needed to be fixed, if not replaced. We were told the previous tenants moved out a month and a half to two months prior to us moving in. I don't know about anyone else, but I've never moved into a more filty apartment. Now I always clean even if the place looks spotless, but this was shameful. Dried poop in the toilets that had been there some time. In one bathroom the sink vanity, and tub was replaced (GREAT). In the bathroom in the master bedroom, the tub had rust spots that were PAINTED over, so you know once you use the tub, and clean it guess what the paint comes off so now it looks as if we've lived there for seventeen years. The sink vanity door was poorly fixed, and the contact paper was peeling off. I felt this should have been replaced also, the toilet was the same as in the first bathroom. The frigerator handle came off in hand, no problem when we moved in and jotted down the problems we saw the next week maintenence came left a work order, that it was done AGAIN. I'm thinking dude no you're not going to get upset because you had to redo something that should've been done right in the first place. Did I mention it's June, and we still haven't heard anything about those kitchen cabinets. The tile in the master bathroom was replaced, but when they put it down too much caulk was used and it dried up on top of some of the tiles which means they always feel dirty. The paint job, they did not dust prior to painting so you see dust in the paint. Now it's hot out, the airconditioning is not cooling the apartment at all. Maintenance came out last Thursday, I heard him spray something, remove an old filter, told me he would be back. That was a eleven am 5/29, he didn't return...if he did there is no work order receipt and the airconditioning is still not cooling the apartment...which means it needs to be recharged all together. Oh the closet doors, are cheap and fall apart all the time, we're constantly snapping the door back on. Patio screen door, is old, and cheap and falls off all the time. The manager happened to be in our apartment (we were experiencing eletrical problems that the maintence man told us was a BG&E problem and BG&E said if we come out you'll get charged, they should replace the breaker on the outside of the apartment) and it happened and said it happens to her all the time...as if we should deal with it.
Now the outside appearance looks good to me, dogs poop...some people pick up, and some don't; that can happen anywhere. But when I come home I should feel like I'm getting my $1400 PLUS rents worth.
Usually I'm the type of person that brushes things off, but I am reminded of how unprofessional Reflections is every time I take a shower, pass by a terrible paint job, and enter my kitchen with those old cabinets. I told myself I'd give it a little time before I was hasty in writing a review to see if some items would be completed, but since it hasn't AND it's hot and humid out and I'm still waiting on maintenance to return to fix the airconditioning I thought I'd not brush this off my shoulders.
So needless to say the thrill is gone. It takes money and time to move, and we hate the physical moving, but unless something drastically changes we're giving this complex two years tops. So think hard before signing on the dotted line, you might want to look at the apartment you will reside in before actually moving in. We asked and the manager told us everytime they are in the process of getting it ready; I don't see it.

Thanks for the post. I checked the place out this past weekend. Sorry you didn't get a chance to view the apartment before moving in. You should always view it before signing the line or just not sign. I definitely will not be renting there.
