This community has really gone downhill in the 5 years I've lived here while the rent has steadily gone up. While it's relatively quiet and in a good location (close to Columbia Mall and Merriweather Post Pavilion and Route 29), it seems to be attracting riff-raff lately. There were pot dealers living across the hall from me for a while until they got evicted in January. My car was broken into a few months ago and items were taken from the trunk, plus there is evidence they tried to steal the car. I live on the ground floor and the tenants and their guests in the upper floors seem to think any trash they throw off their balcony simply disappears. I can hear my neighbors' every step and every phone ring and some conversations, not to mention the herd of elephants coming up and down the stairs. There's a tricky light in the parking lot that always turns off when you pull in, and there are always shady characters hanging out in their cars at night making it not such a safe-feeling place anymore. A year ago I walked out my apartment and a horrible smell hit me--it was human feces at the foot of the stairs. I called management but it was a Sunday and they told me the cleaning crew only works Tuesdays and Thursdays so my son and I had to walk past the pile of poo and navigate our way through the ---- smeared on the walls and railings for two freakin' days. It turned out to be from a delinquent 14-year-old from the apartment community next door, and my apartment building was not the first one he'd used as his own personal toilet.
The central air intake and hot water heater closet are locked and maintenance changes the air filter only twice a year. That wouldn't be such a bad thing if they used 6-month filters, but they use the flimsiest, cheapest filters on the market that are so bad you can see right through them. Not good if you're an allergy or asthma sufferer like me. Oh yeah, the maintenance guys are really creepy. They fix things okay, but they always creep me out.
Overall I have not been satisfied with the community and plan to move when my lease is up in July.
