I have read alot of the reviews of not only this complex but of dozens of others(when I was apartment hunting) and I see a common theme of negativity. My experience with life is that people will 9 times out of 10 focus on the negative aspects than the positive ones. And you see that in review after review. No matter how much management does there will always be someone who isn't happy...that said...

I chose to live at the Berkshires because of how beautiful the inside of the apartments look after the renovation. I wasn't so impressed with the outside but once I walked in, it won me over immediately. I had looked at alot of places before the Berkshires and although they all looked great from the outside it was either really tiny or rundown on the inside. The apartments at the Berkshires have alot of space and large closets which I love, being a girl.

It's a funny thing about that murder at 7-11 because I had just moved in 2 weeks before that happened! Yeah talk about luck. It did spook me for a couple weeks but it has been a year since then and nothing has happened since and they DID catch the guy very quickly after it happened and a community watch was created after that incidence occurred. Even though this happened, I have NEVER felt unsafe in this neighborhood, or walking to my car or even walking to the 7-11. I mean, let's not overexagerate. The Berkshires are a half mile from the mall(considered a nice area) and a half mile from Fairway Hills gold course, which is considered a "nice area". So tell me how does one go from a nice area to a bad area in just a half mile''' I'll tell yah how! It's called RACISM.

I just signed a new lease on April 1st 2008. ANd I did so because I really love my newly renovated apartment and I love the location that is convinient to EVERYTHING and 2 miles from my job at Howard County General Hospital. I have never had any issues with heating/air/plumbing being broken. I have a W/D in my unit and it has never leaked or broken down. My closet came unhinged once and they came over within 1 hour to fix it. I don't have any roaches or bugs. I think the bug complaints are coming from the people that live on the first floor apartments that are right on the ground. I am on the 3rd floor.

I have never had any issues with management. They have always been kind with me. And i love that they are a pet friendly community too. That's an important factor for me. That's my 2 cents!

First lets correct the one statement, after the murder at Seven-11, one more murder occured, oh yeah and it was at the BERKSHIRES! Oh yeah and the murderer lived there, and his family still does!!! And as for feeling safe in your community, you should be very afraid! When the Howard County Police department says to you...watch when coming in at night and be very cautious of your surroundings you should be afraid, because that's what they told me. And they also said that the police department will deny any criminal activity because it will bring down the property value in the area. How can a neighborhood go from great to bad in a 1/2 mile radius? Well, go to the inner city in any metropolitan area and you will see! It happens a lot.

Not only is the neighborhood dangerous, they seem to have found International hoodlums, kids unsupervised cursing, stealing, climbing on cars, jumping on the back of tractor trailers, stealing out of yards and going on anyones property at will. I never see parents with these kids some as young as 3 riding on skateboards belly first in the middle of the street. Middle and elementary school girls acting homosexual, smoking, smaller kids humping on each other. Little boys doing booty dances. Don't ever let your child play unsupervised. The surface of the renovations are beautiful, but until they change the piping and original structures that are watered down literally in these units, there will always be leaks just in a prettier unit. Look at the roof tops of the Townhouse while walking through the playground..shingles falling off. They upgraded the playground by added a climbing wall and 2 bouncy horses, but left the original playground on the premises which filthy and has 2 baby side by side slides. The amount of children in the neighborhood would warrant a much larger playground. Especially since they have NO POOL, NO FITNESS CENTER, NO TENNIS COURTS or any other recreation. The residents leave dog poop all over areas that they know children are playing..thats just gross So watch your step in the grass. They now have a few trash receptacles for doggie poop But the management some how strategically placed them in high traffic areas where kids are and the kids constantly vandalize the boxes scattering the dog poopie bags (empty ones) all over the grass. The staff still sucks and I mean really sucks. 2 of the maintenance guys remind you of dumber and dumber (you'll know who they are) the rest are ok. Move here if you want to see packs of kids making noise, being disrespectful and cars speeding up and down the street and Police, Police, Police

Don't be fooled by the location of this community. Just because it's near the fairway golf course does not mean this neighborhood is nice. It's been here forever, and the people who live there do not change. I don't think the fairway hills neighborhoods accept as many section 8 housing as this place does. BY the way it's not racism it's prejudice! The office staff is prejudice against anyone who is not like them especially young professionals, students, anyone who is not the majority aka people who can stir trouble with upper management(headquarters), and I was a victim of that, and is the main reason why we left the neighborhood. The previous post if correct about the kids running around the neighborhood. I saw a little girl scraping all the car's hoods with an old rake, little boys throwing rocks at cars, while their parents look abroad. This neighborhood is more into making it's outside appearance look nice, and does not care about the inner, no wonder why the turnover rate is so high!!!! There are pluses to the neighborhood, but negatives outweigh the positives!

To hannibalgrovesucks, I am sorry but there was only 1 shooting at the 7-11(3 years ago), not two. The person you are refering to that supposedly committed the second murder(that never happened) was the person who did the shooting at 7-11 and yes his family DID live here(3 years ago)but they were evicted soon after he was arrested. And he was arrested immediately after the shooting and there have been ZERO problems here since. Berkshires requires all new tenants to do a background check. If you have a felony on your record, you cannot move in. And the fact that your name says hannibal grove says that you are still living in the past. Maybe when this complex was being managed by Hannibal Grove it was a different story. But since the new management has taken over,(3 years ago) they have evicted ALL the undesirables and replaced them with people with NO CRIMINAL HISTORY, since they do background checks. I remember when I moved in, in 2007, my entire building was completely empty cause they had kicked everyone out. I am so sick of people living in the past of how things "USED" to be. The new management has done a fantastic job of cleaning up this complex. I am not going on 3 years and have NO PLANS on moving. I LOVE IT HERE.
