Yo!

Setting the record straight from my experience....

Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2008

I am a 6-month tenant, so I have not been able to bask in the full-glory that is Crofton Village, but these are my experiences as honestly as I can relay them:

Overall, it's not so bad living here. I don't hate it, I just find it inconvenient. That is probably the word that sums it up the best. It is a reasonable place for the price in the area and that I cannot argue. I have found that the inside of my apartment is generally acceptable and I have no heartache about my living here except for the roaches (which come and go in waves, they need to try something more aggressive) and the windows. Mine are old and need to be replaced and there is some kind of residue in between the inside and outside panes that gives it a weird, white fuzzy tint that I can't see through and it's kind of bothersome.

Are roaches a problem' YES. My husband and I are pretty clean folks; we do the dishes every other night, if not every night. Here, you cannot afford to leave any dirty dishes out, any un-run dishwasher cycle if you hope to avoid seeing them at all. The price of eternal freedom from roaches in this complex is eternal vigilance.

Do people hang out on the steps often' YES. If the weather is nice, there will be porch vultures, but in my experience they have always said hello and opened the door for me when I am carrying things in, so it was not a problem for me. This is building 902 and we have really never had noise issues.

Is parking an issue' SORT OF. In some places, the parking lot is filled; my building wasn't so bad. We always got a spot and we never had to work too hard for it. The complex should definitely have permits and a vehicle max per apartment and police this carefully.

Is the laundry system a broken one' YES. Four washers per building for 16 apartments can be a problem, specifically if there is no checked limit on the number of people living in one apartment. The machines are not very big and it is $1.75 per use for the washer and dryer. For one load of laundry, that's $3.50 people. I do my laundry elsewhere when I can.

Is the management staff incompetent' NO. I haven't had any problems with them at all, so in my opinion, no. However, with that being said, there are many measures they could implement to make this a much more pleasant place to live.

Are there shady characters in the complex' YES. Most definitely, but I have not had any direct run-ins or problems with said people. Should you fear for your life' I don't think so. Maybe fear for your personal property, but we have had no problems here. My neighbors have been nice and respectful people (at least to me).

Issues that I have had, but that are not are not major:

People throw their trash where ever they want because they don't care. In the hallways people have left drink cans, food wrappers, gum, receipts, garbage; they throw their junk mail on the floor, don't pick up their delivered papers, and don't clean up after their pets.

There is only one trash compactor per complex. I have to travel a ways to get to the garbage bin. I prefer not putting trash in my car to transport it, so I walk about a 1/16 of a mile to it (not too unreasonably far, but inconvenient). There is a ramp going up to it, so many people will just leave their trash there and not even bother lifting the chute to put their trash in (LAZY PEOPLE!).

There are no pet stations. I would prefer to not take my animal's fecal matter back into my apartment or a block away to deposit her waste. However, I know that if there were stations, they would be abused by the residents, so I understand why there are not any, but it is still unfortunate.

No shelving in the pantry is bothersome. Actually, that is incorrect, there is one at the very top of the pantry and that's it, so that was annoying to me.

No overhead lights in the bedroom and closets are operated on pull cords.

Overall, my stay has been ok and I much prefer living here and being financially comfortable than being stressed and living in a perfect place. You have to make sacrifices sometimes, so this being the alternative is not so bad. It can be worth it, it just depends on what you are willing to deal with.
