I suppose it could be worse ...

Years at this apartment: 2008 - 2008

I lived in bldg. 908 for one year and during my time there, I hated it! I'm going to write this review as honestly as possible and try not to put too much disgust in it.

NEGATIVES:
- Roaches. Gross. We first discovered them in our coffee maker. I guess the damp dark space attracted them or something. My husband and I are clean people ... we should be able to have a coffee maker without having to worry about roaches. After that ordeal, they just decided to hang around. Sometimes we would go weeks without seeing one and then BOOM! There would be 5 or 6 in the kitchen in one night. RAID was my best friend.

- Loitering. Call me crazy but I don't enjoy having to crawl through a bunch of smoking -------- in order to get up to my door. We were in the apartment right out front and the smell of smoke would seep into our apartment. We could hear them laughing and listening to music at all hours of the night. In the winter or when it raining, people actually smoked INSIDE the hallway!!! And the smoke we smelled was terrible. My husband had to go out quite a few times and tell them to knock it off. BUT I will say that when I'm walking up the steps with my son in my arms or groceries, they are kind enough to hold the door for me.

- No laundry! I don't know about anyone else's building but the laundry machines were NEVER available to us. They were constantly occupied. The one time my husband did get to use the machines it was 2am and the dryer was not even close to powerful enough to dry our clothes. He ran two cycles and then had to just set them all over the house to finish air drying.

- Windows. The windows are cheap and installed terribly! When it started to get cold outside we always noticed that it was so much colder by the window in the living room but the window was closed so we didn't think there was anything we could do. Upon further inspection, my husband discovered that THE WINDOW PANED WAS FALLING OUT OF THE WINDOW ITSELF!!! You could push on the pane and it would almost come out. I called to have this fixed but this leads to another issuse ...

- Maintenance. They are slow to do anything! We had a lot of issue with our apartment (as you can see) and nothing was ever done in a timely manner. I had to call 3 times to get the window situation fixed. I locked myself and my son out of my apartment once (during business hours) and waiting for over an hour to have someone come and let me in, despite the office saying that they would come right away.

- Wandering tenants. I suppose my husband and I are too trusting people, but when we're home sometimes we would leave the door unlocked. Well, on a number of occasions random people would try and walk into our apartment. Once my husband was just hanging out watching TV and a mexican woman walked right in ... saw my husband and walked out!! My husband (being the man he is) chased her down and asked her was she was doing ... she thought it was her apartment. He asked her where her apartment was ... she the FOURTH FLOOR! How do you not know that you haven't walked up FOUR FLIGHTS OF STAIRS''' ... Shady, I tell you ... shady.

- Inconsiderate neighbors. Besides the above mentioned smoking issues, loitering issues and wandering issues ... we have had fireworks go off at 10 o'clock at night in MAY! We have had trash left outside our door. We have had people sit on our cars. We have had people leave their dogs on their 4th floor balcony to bark SO LOUD at 11pm. Among many other things.

-Dark. What I mean by this is ... the unit we were in was in a front corner of the building. We never got ANY sunlight into our apartment. We only had 4(poorly installed) windows and every one of them was blocked by trees. It was depressing to walk into.

- Over-populated apartments. -------- stuff 3 or 4 familes into a 2 bedroom apartment.

POSITIVES:
- Price. Yep, it's cheap for the area. It's not the worst place you could live but you get what you pay for.

- Really nice property manager. I really liked Dave. He was responsive and genereally seemed to care about issues that my family was having. He is very kind. It's a shame that he is in charge of such a P.O.S.

- Pretty big. We had a 2br, 2ba and it was pretty large, all things considered.

- Good location. I liked the Crofton area. These apartments are in a good location. Waugh Chapel is right across the street, Annapolis, B-More and DC are very close.

- A LOT of kitchen space. If there is ONE THING that I miss about Crofton Village it was the kitchen space and storage space. Our new apartment is AMAZING but the kitchen is tiny compared to the one we had. But I'll take the trade since I don't have to worry about the roaches.
