My First Apartment Experience

I moved into Oakcrest Towers March of 2008, after visiting several apartments within Prince George's County. Oakcrest Towers had more to offer than other apartments and the rent was reasonable compared to the amount of space the apartment had.
A friend from college recommended Oakcrest Towers because a co-worker of hers lived there for 3 years with no problems. My apartment happened to be one of the one-bedroom demos, so when I moved in I was able to keep all of the accesories that were used to furnish the apartment. Its been a year now and I can honestly say that I haven't had any major problems. I was able to move into my apartment a week early with no extra charge and it was clean.
I haven't had any major problems with roaches besides when you get new neighbors who aren't to clean or who bring roaches with them from there past residence. However, management is pretty consist with its building exterminations and if you notice bugs/roaches don't hesitate to let management know whats going on.
The residental community is very diverse and most people seem to be very friendly. Considering the area in which Oakcrest Towers is located (down the street from Benning Rd., not far from Capital Heights...a.k.a. shoot'em up city, etc.) during the summer you can easily find someone jogging or families walking within the community. Oveall, the community is pretty safe, I've walked down Brooks Drive several nights by myself and felt safe. For individuals like myself who don't own a car, there are several bus stops right outside of the actual apartment complex and its not far from Suitland Metro Station (Green Line) and Addison Road-Seat Pleasant Metro Station (Blue Line). Its walking distance to shopping, fast food restaurants, etc.
I haven't had any major problems with management, whenever I call they always seem concerned about solving my problem. If you need maintenance to fix something make sure you stay on top of the problem and bug the hell out of management. The guys who answer the emergency maintenance calls have always responded in a timely fashion.
Overall, I'm glad I decided to move into Oakcrest Towers. Next month my lease ends and I'm planning to renew my lease. Luckily my rent was only raised $26. When I moved in I was paying $860(rent) per month plus $30 for utilities.

What building are you in? I'm thinking about moving into the same building as the leasing office but I wasn't sure if it was well kept or a dump like I heard of in the other buildings. Please shed some light on the building where the leasing office is?
thanks.

Yes, I pay for utilities, an extra $30.
I live in building 2110 but I have a friend who says in the same building as the leasing office and from what I hear that building is pretty well kept. If the management decides to make any changes or upgrades to the apartments, that building is the first to receive them.
