I have resided at Oakcrest for approximately 5 years. Initially I was planning to break my least because there are so many problems that I have with the complex. I have stayed only because the rent in my opinion is very cheap, my utilities are included, there's lots of free parking, it's a locked/secure building, it's near the metro, it's within 30 mintues of major malls, and it is only 5 minutes from my place of employment.
The problems with Oakcrest for me consists of the ROACHES. I mean HUGE ROACHES, and medium and small ones. I have never had roaches before moving here. I have had to put boric acid down everywhere just to keep them out of my unit. The walls are very thin, and my neighbors smoke (everything) and it gets into my appartment causing it too smell aweful. One neighbor, when you pass by his unit, you can smell aweful unwashed smells that get into my unit as well, so I keep candles, air freshner, etc on hand. The elevators are often broken, and I have gotten stuck in them a few times. Some residents write/draw on the elevator walls and drop trash/paper in the hallways. Local buisnesses continuously put flyers on your door. I'm talking about to the extinct that it is excessive. Also, you are not supposed to have pets, but one neigbhor does have a small dog.

I TOTALLY agree with you on the roach problem. I lived here in 2007 and had no problem...moved back in nov 08 and it has become a HUGE problem. I have had their exterminator come to my unit at least 7 times!!! They are still here and they tried to tell me the exterminator said there is not a problem. I hired Orkin and they came in and immediately found the infestation!! However, once again the roaches are still there....I dont know what has happened to that place and I'm supposed to be in one of the best buildings! Did the boric acid work for you, it has been recommended to me a few times I have never brought it because I dont want to have that down everywhere because I have a smaill child...

Well boric acid does work but considering your little one:)you can't put it everywhere but you can in higher places. Like over top of the cabinets in the kitchen etc., but keep in mind, its not OAKCREST towers. Its your neighbors, or who house they are invited too. Roaches travel people! Correction: You can have pets, only Cats. Dogs no, are not permitted.

Wow this sounds like my building 2120 ! Same thing ..along with Oakcrest letting all these YOUNG Kids (I am thinking section 8) people move-in and do not give a damn about the property. Tenats on my floor was in a studio..they had at least 6 people living there and had people in and out all the time. On a few occasions , I saw drug transactions being handled. Also, Management is very POOR. It takes forever to get anything done. In Sept 2007, the apartment above me flooded. In stead of oakcrest contacting me..they went into my apartment, put down a nast trash can under the leak and did nothing else. My thing is, they should have called me, because the leake was near my computer desk and other electronics. Thank God, nothing was messed up, but you would have thought they would have moved it out of the way and contacted me. Here it is a year later and I STILL HAVE THE SAME WATER STAINS on my ceiling and in the light fixtures. The ceiling has even began to crack! My stove goes out at least once a month... the last time, it took them a month to light the pilot light (if I cooked often, I would have really raised hell) - My fridge, does not close unless you slam it.. one weekend I went away.. I thought it was closed, I came home and I had to throw out all my food. On any occassion in my building , you can find a pile of poop in the stairwell... YES.. we have a homeless person, that constantly sleeps, eats and poops in our building. This has been reported by several tenants..think they did anything about it? Also, the leasing office is BAD about handling your rent. I suggest you pay with a Debit Card and KEEP ALL YOUR RECEIPTS, because they will screw you when it is time to move. I am so glad I had mine... I aggree with the original blogger ..there are lots of folk in my building who do not care..so yes, you have to keep candles , etc on hand to make sure your place keeps a pleasant smell.. Lastly, my hardwood floors should have been changed yrs ago .. I have to wear shoes at all times, because of the many splinters all over the place. They promised to come in and do carpet etc..and of course nothing has happened. If management sees this.. they should know who this is , since we have been back and forth for over a month now. God, I can't wait to get out of here. I will say this, now I have noticed a lot of Caucasians moving into the community.... I seriously doubt they will put up with it..and unfortunately people like me... I (30s, black, professional) we are in the minority, because most there ..are hood and don't care about anything.
