Utility bills through the roof

We turned on the heat for the first time last month. The furnace would not stop running. It clicks on every other minute. My girlfriend thought it was broken, so we had the maintenance people look at it. They left a note that it was working fine. I've never lived in a place where the heat ran constantly. Our first bill with the heat on was $176 for a small 2 bedroom apartment. We keep the temperature set to 73 degrees. I can't waite for this lease to be up on this horrid place.

I know this is old, but if you ever check back, here's a tip in your future apartments and homes... 73 degrees in the winter is why you had such a high bill and the heat ran constantly. Dropping down a few degrees will save you a ton of money, 68 degrees is still comfortable and even with today's (Feb 2009) higher utility bills, you will probably pay less now than you did when you posted this if you just set your thermostat to 68.
