Sherwood Crossing Apartments

If you can find another place to live, don't live in Sherwood Crossing.

Years at this apartment: 2004 - 2006
Most of my 2.5yr experience at Sherwood Crossing has been with the Bozzuto management. They were okay - they dealt with maintenance issues within a week when they weren't urgent (for urgent stuff, they were very attentive); they had landscapers (weekly or semiweekly) and maintenance crew come through EVERY MORNING to take care of the exterior property; and generally, they knew what they were doing.
Some notes: hot water heaters - most are due for replacing. The one in the unit above mine broke, my neighbors didn't report it, and I came home to 5 inches of standing water and a collapsed ceiling. The complex did have a 'guest apartment' for tenants displaced by such things. The fact that they need a 'guest apartment' should be taken as a sign that such things happen fairly often. If you're going to live here, get renter's insurance - pray you won't have to use it, but in the event that you do (and from my POV, the chances of that are good), it will be worth every penny spent.
Parking: parking is an issue in this community, regardless of what part of the community you live in. Everyone wants a parking spot close to where they live. I lived in the back of the community and I can't tell you how many times I've come home at 10pm and had to park up at the pool in the visitor's lot. I have never seen a car without a parking tag towed from this community, despite having called in the abandoned and rusting vehicle in front of my building multiple times. Also - parking is not well lit or particularly secure. We had a group target the vehicles in the community last year and my car window was broken and radio stolen.
As of mid-September 2006, JPI has taken over management of the property. So far, I have yet to see any basic exterior maintenance done in the community -- the grass hasn't been cut, and the leaves haven't been raked and no one has come through to pick up the trash that the wind has blown out of or away from the dumpsters and recycling area.
The leasing agents are there to sign you up, not to solve your problems or find someone able to solve your problems. And good luck getting anyone to call you back if you leave a message or have questions.
I can't tell you how glad I am to be moving out of Sherwood Crossing, if the last 6 weeks has been any indication of things to come with JPI. Bozzuto management was okay - they dealt with things, they were professional, and they seemed to genuinely care both about the property and the residents. So far, JPI has a long way to go to reach the Bozzuto level of professionalism and proficiency within the Sherwood Crossing community.
