This is my honest review of West Creek Village. I hope it is helpful in your apartment hunting process.
The Good-
The apartments in this neighborhood are fairly well designed and spacious. The two bedrooms are setup roommate style and provide privacy for those in a roommate situation. Each apartment has its own washer and dryer which is a plus. Also, another nice feature is that you get a fairly large front patio (actually a huge front deck) and a rear balcony. If you love waking up in the morning, sitting outside, and enjoying some fresh air you'll love this design feature.
As for the noise issue, I've never had that become a huge issue for me. Don't get me wrong; when my neighbor below me cranks up his surround sound I can hear that and it is a bit annoying. That happens few and far between, and let??s face it...we live in apartments people! Get over it!
As far as neighbors are concerned I can say that I've never had to speak to any of them and that the way I like it. Everyone is cordial while minding their own business. My kind of people!
I've also never had any problems with management. Everyone is pretty nice when I walk into the clubhouse. I can't really tell you much about maintenance because I've never had to call them. Then again, if something malfunctions just a little bit (my refrigerator makes an annoying noise every once in a while) I don't go crying to maintenance about it right away.
Now for The Bad-
"The Rockwood difference"
As you may know by now West Creek Village is built by (Pettinarro) and managed by (Mid-Atlantic Realty) the same companies as it's sister neighborhood, Rockwood. Now I want you to take a tour of Rockwood then take a tour of West Creek Village. Don't feel much like coming back to West Creek do ya' When compared to its sister neighborhood, Rockwood, West Creek Village is actually an adopted redheaded stepcousin! It's a constant reminder of what this neighborhood could be if the powers that be just put a little effort into raising the level of this place.
Rockwood's grounds are beautiful and well manicured while West Creek Village won't leave your friends and family with the same "Wow" factor when they come to visit. The landscaping is kinda blah and the surrounding neighborhood is a dump and very embarrassing when you have your friends come and visit. (In fairness, rumor has it they are building a new road that will allow entrance to West Creek without having to go through "The Hood".)
Rockwood comes equipped with a beautiful tennis court and playground so the kids won??t have to play in the street like they do here at West Creek. Believe me, you'd better be extra careful driving through this neighborhood or you run the risk of hitting a kid! They have nowhere else to play so they create a safety concern with their playing in the street.
The fitness center here is a joke! (I usually only leave constructive criticism but this is by far the best way to describe it). Go to Rockwood and you'll find state of the art equipment while at West Creek you'll find 1 elliptical, an old 1990-something exercise bike, an old treadmill and a few weights.
Now on to some other negatives...
Blackouts happen at least once a month in this neighborhood. Actually this part of Elkton is prone to blackouts for a reason I'll probably never know, but if you hate having to reset your appliances, clocks, and losing work on your PC, keep this in mind.
The pet policy in this neighborhood (No pets in any of the newer buildings) assumes one of two things; 1). If you have a pet you can't be trusted to keep a new apartment clean or, 2) If you have an older apartment it is okay to have your dog crap all over the place. If you are gonna allow pets allow them all over the neighborhood. Why shouldn't I be allowed to keep fido just because I want newer construction'
Also, it would be nice if the front gate actually had a gate!
All in all this is an okay place but it sucks to know that somewhere close by someone else is living in the same apartments but being taken care of better.
Therefore, I halfheartedly recommend this place but I'd recommend you ask management why they settle for "okay" when with a little effort and fresh thinking this place could be extraordinary' We've seen Rockwood and we know what West Creek Village is capable of.
Choosing an apartment is a big decision and I hope my detailed review was helpful and fair. If you have any questions post them and I'll respond.
P.S.- If the powers that be make any changes for the better (or worse) I'll be sure to update my review immediately to keep this fair and up to date.

Update- They just built a playground for the kids and as predicted the streets are no longer flooded with as many children as before. It's a step in the right direction. But... The problem with noisy neighbors is very much a reality. There is a new family in one of the 900 buildings (I won't say exactly which one) who is constantly fighting in the parking lots late at night. At 2am you can expect to hear them breaking glass, arguing, and yelling at their kids and dogs. Tried calling the sheriff's office one night but they refused to send anyone. West Creek really needs to take care of this! |
