MY DAMN ROOF COLLAPSED!!!!!!

A COUPLE OF WEEKS AFTER MOVING IN THE APARTMENTS, THE OVEN/STOVE DIDN'T WORK AND LEAKED GAS.I CALLED THE RENTAL OFFICE SEVERAL TIMES WHICH WAS A BIG MISTAKE EVERYONE IN THE OFFICE HAD A TERRIBLE ATTITUDE NOBODY EVER CAME OUT. I HAD TO CALL THE FIRE DEPARTMENT AND WASHINGTON GAS FINALLY PUT A DANGER HAZARDOUS TAG ON OUR STOVE AND WE FINALLY GOT A NEW STOVE. THE TOILET CONSTANTLY LEAKED FROM THE BOTTOM CAUSING A BATHROOM LEAK FOR THE PEOPLE UNDER US. WE HAD BUGS HUGE WATER BUGS OR WHATEVER THEY WERE, THE WASHING MACHINE AND DRYER NEVER WORKED THERE ARE SO MANY OTHER THINGS BUT THE BIGGEST PROBLEM WE HAD WAS OF THE CEILING IN THE DINING ROOM LEAKED AND HAD BLACK MOLD GROWING THIS WENT ON FOR A YEAR WE CONSTANTLY CALLED THE RENTAL OFFICE BUT NOBODY EVER CAME OUT WE FINALLY CALLED THE HEALTH DEPT. WHEN EVER YOU CALLED THE RENTAL OFFICE ALL YOU EVER GOT WAS ATTITUDES!!!! I DON'T THINK THEY EVER TOOK MESSAGES AND PUT IN WORK ORDERS. THE FINAL STRAW WAS WHEN THE LIGHT WENT OUT IN THE HALL WAY COMING HOME AT NIGHT BECAME A HASSLE IT WAS ALWAYS DARK AND PEOPLE WOULD BE SITTING IN THE HALLWAY ON THE STEPS. WE DECIDED TO BREAK THE LEASE AND MOVE NOBODY SHOULD HAVE TO LIVE UNDER THOSE CONDITIONS. ALL THIS HAPPENED 7 MONTHS AGO AND I HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO GET ANOTHER APARTMENT DUE TO THERE SORRY ASS RECOMMENDATIONS AND MY 0LD APARTMENT IS WORSE THAN BEFORE NOBODY HAS MOVED IN, THE DOOR IS WIDE OPEN AND THE CEILING HAS COLLAPSED IF WE WOULD HAVE STAYED THE CEILING WOULD HAVE COLLAPSED ON MY FURNITURE. ALL OF THIS IS A DAMN SHAME!!!! I'M SO GLAD TO BE GONE BUT PISSED THAT I STILL HAVE TO DEAL WITH THE TRIFLING, RUDE, AND DISRESPECTFUL RENTAL OFFICE.

you should have had your rent put in escrow. I'm sure they would have either moved you to a better apartment or fix the one you were in.

What you should of done was made sure your rent was paid in full and told them to move you in another apt. if they would not do that then you should of not paid your rent and took pictures of everything even the big water bugs along with writting it down like the day and time that each of these events happened and when you called the rental office and reported it and then went to court for non payment of rent and showed it to the judge and trust and believe they would of automatically put your rent in escrow and they would have a certain amount of time to fix all of the problems you were having and when you went back to court if it was not fixed then they would have no choice but to move you or allow you to break your lease with no judgements on your credit report. To make the complex better to live in we all need to stand together and trust Miles will get rid of the people in the office eventually when he see that people are not paying their rent and they are continuously putting their rent in escrow. All of them in the rental office is ghetto as he** and all of them need fast food jobs for the way the act. They know they would not want to live in them conditions so they should do what they need to do to make it livable for others. Planting some dag on trees and putting up gates and stuff does not make the apartments livable. I don't suggest no one to move here until Miles go in all them old apartments and update them all.

Can you please tell me how to get in contact with the health department. I have two small children and the mice are taking over I can't live like this. I want to move but it's so hard to get another apartment right now. I keep my apartment very clean but it doesn't matter the mice come in any way big and small. I lift up the cover on the stove there are so many mouse droppings there and on the da#n counter top!!!! The renatl office hasn't sent anyone out yet. I can fix the problem myself all I ask them to do is pull my stove out so I can see if it's a hole back there so I can plug it; by law I should be able to slide the stove out cause it's suppose to be on a cable but knowing this old @$$ apartments and appliances it's not and I'm scared if we move it gas will leak in the apartment.

Kat0722, I really feel for you and the 2 children. Contact Landlord & Tenant court in Hyattsville, and pay your rent to the court so they cannot take any legal action against you. Take any evidence you have, (pictures, etc.) and present it to the the court. Then, contact the Dept. of Housing on Peppercorn Place in Largo, MD, and tell them your exact issues. They will inspect, and force management to correct your issues, and/or move you to a suitable apt. NO ONE should have to live like this. Good luck.
