My husband and I lived at the Apartments at Sunset for a year. Our lease ran out on May 31. As required, a month before moving, we gave them our notice of intent to vacate. Maintenance personnel did a walk-through inspection of our empty apartment and I turned in the keys to the assistant manager. After moving, we received water and sewer bills for the months of June and July, as well as a Past Due Notice for June and July rent. On top of those bills, we were quite upset when we received a summons to court for failure to pay rent, but we also received a letter from a law office saying that our case had been canceled. During the time we were receiving these notices, I called the Apartments at Sunset office. With the water and sewer bills, they told me to ignore them since I didn t live there anymore. They said because of new management and/or new software, their system hadn t been updated yet. However, in July when I received the notice from them for two months of past due rent, I went to the office to complain and the manager looked us up in the computer database and it showed us as still living at our old apartment; they had never updated their files nor did they have record of us turning in the keys. I made the manager write a letter stating that we had vacated in May and we did not owe rent. What bothers us is that these mistakes can damage our credit report, reputation, and could hinder us in the future if applying for a loan or moving to a new home. While they tried to make it right, in general they frequently demonstrated incompetence and an unprofessional attitude in their treatment, not only with these overdue notices but also over the course of our year with them with maintenance issues, for example. Sometimes the maintenance guys would come and fix the problem quickly, sometimes after a week, and a few times never because they seemed to think the issue wasn t important. The apartments look nice on the surface, but are in dire need of an overhaul from the inside out. The grounds are nice and well kept. We never used the pool or exercise equipment. The walls are very thin, we could hear our neighbor singing in the shower, or the plates in our cabinets would rattle when the neighbors would walk around next door. In general the office staff acted indifferent and annoyed when you would go in to pay the rent or ask a question. I would describe the Apartments at Sunset as an unprofessional and disorganized place, a place that I would not recommend to anyone.

I live here currently and would describe all interactions with management and staff (excepting maintenance personnel) in the same manner- they are indifferent or even rude to tenants.
