I have lived in a number of apartments in and around Frederick, MD. So far, my residence at The Apartments at Sunset has afforded me the best living experience in the area thus far. The grounds are generally very well maintained, and maintenance staff is courteous and kind. I do feel, however, that more highly qualified maintenance workers are needed. The current staff appears to be overworked.

The biggest complaint we have is in regards to the office staff, particularly the community management. I have never been so poorly treated by apartment management as I have been at The Apartments at Sunset. Kathy and Amy (management) are two of the most indifferent and rudest apartment managers I have dealt with to date. All other tenants I have spoken to regarding this problem are in complete agreement- for them to refer a colleague or friend to this property, the current management would have to go! Unfortunately, this unprofessional attitude is a constant. I have lived here nearly two years and have only been greeted with a smile from staff other than management. Actually, most of the time the apartment managers do not even acknowledge you are standing in front of them unless you force them to do so by asking a question. Certain people should simply not work with the public- people skills are generally necessary.

Basically, if you can live here without ever having to deal with management (no calls to the office for maintenance requests or dropping off the rent check in person), your stay at The Apartments at Sunset should be pleasurable. Otherwise, consider renting for more $$$ at another location like Crystal Park, or better still, buy your own property!!!

I've lived here for 9 years. Online now looking for an email address to inform that I am moving. I agree with you totally by the way the management staff treats you when you walk in. The maintenance guys are great. I have no complaints about that other than sometimes I would call to put in a work order and no one ever showed up and I'd have to call again. I blame that on the person that took the call, which is one of those in the front office. Property is nice, upkeep is good, but after living in an apartment for so long you think I'd be able to have a fresh paint job. I lived in a 3BR 2nd flr for 6 years and a 2BR 1st flr for 3. The apt I have close to air conditioning units, no kitchen window is not worth the money I am paying and the fact each year it goes up about 60-90 bucks.

I definitely agree with the statement regarding the management. The maintenance staff are great and so is the rest of the leasing office staff. I have only had one problem in my two years here and it has been with the management. I had some friends over for a party (which I have done about once a month since I moved in with no complaints) and we had a new neighbor move in. He decided that we were too noisy (which according to everyone else around us we were not) and called the police and ultimately the management. I received a call the next morning full of false accusations such as it was trashed outside my apartment (there was one beer can sitting outside my door) and people leaving my apartment had broken things on the way out. I asked her what they looking like and why she had not stopped them or called the police and she could not give me a description. If someone really had done that, I wanted to know because I did not want them at my place. She also said she had a bunch of complaints about me from other people over the past 2 years. When I asked her why she had not called me (since they are required to) she didnt have an answer and I knew she was making it up. I knew my neighbors and always let them know when I was having friends over. She got so upset about being called out that she told me she was putting an eviction notice on my door. Of course since the things she had accused me of were fabricated lies, no notice has ever been received. I will definitely be leaving this place the second my lease is up!

Here's a hint - when you confront neighbors door to door and say, is my loud music bothering you? or is my barking dog bothering you? and they say no, they don't mean it. It DOES bother them.

It would bother anyone. And you are wrong to even ask. They just aren't going to say it bothers them to your face.

It's very intimidating to go around asking people if your bad behavior is bothering them. Know that it is, and just stop doing it.

To unfairly target this one guy and pretend it's only him is typical. Your neighbors are ALL bothered!

Nobody wants to hear your noise. Nobody. People are tired from work and want some peace, or at least to enjoy their unit without hearing pound pound pound from your music or bark bark bark from your dog.

You can't just make as much noise as you want whenever you want in an apartment. Be considerate of your neighbors!

The complaints were real. You just lucked out because this place is badly managed - the office doesn't "have" to do anything, they just don't want to be bothered with doing anything more than they did.
