Can't wait to leave

It has been a nightmare living here since we moved in. The construction was bad as proven that they did not put in the fire dampers in the vents or the return air vent until we had lived in the apartment for almost 6 months. The 3rd bedroom seems to be an afterthought and in the winter is almost as cold as the outside, and in the summer, you could cook in there. The maintenance staff has "tried" to fix the heat/air conditioner, but to no avail. FOund out from other tennants with the same layout have the same problem. I suspect that there is no insulation and that the one heat duct (12 feet in the air) does not work properly.
We have complained about our upstairs neighbor since the first few days about the loud noices and the fact that they sound like gorillas walking across the floor. Thier dog is locked up in a cage for over 18 hours each day and crys, whines, and moans the whole time (at the top of his lungs). THe office has "wiped thier hands" of the issue and we have had to call the cops to get some relief.
There are an abundance of animals in the complex, some of which are much to big to be in an apartment. Some owners pick up from them, but a majority do not leaving "presents" all over including on the stairs to the apartments. And may are extremely agressive an dbark exessively all day long.
The maintenance staff is very lazy and only will respond to yelling to get things done. They tend to shut off thier "hotline" so that they do not have to respond to emergencies. Most of the office staff (have changed repeatedly since we moved in. This tells me that either they do not pay well, or they move them to other facilities when issues arise.
Our lease is up in December and we cannot wait to move.

Too bad. We are looking for a place to live, so I guess we will have to try something or somewhere else. I had misgivings when I went there you just confirmed. I asked about what they'd do if dogs were barking all day or some other excessive noise problem and they were evasive. It sounds like they just leave everything up to you and the police. That's problematic on several fronts. They dog or music or whatever noise has to be going on when the police get there, and even if they catch them in the act multiple times, what of it? The noise just starts back up 5 minutes after they leave. When I called about noise at the apartment where I live now, the police told me the office is supposed to enforce the lease and evict people who repeatedly break it, not the police. One officer told me they get a lot of calls about where I live (the Apartments at Sunset) and nobody could pay him to live there. It's all about money, but you'd think being all about money they'd want to have happy residents who stay? I wonder, is this constant turnover of miserable residents a money maker for apartment complexes? However, the funny thing is, I don't think apartments are full anymore. I'd pay more for an apartment that offered me peace and quiet! I'm willing to move outside of Frederick and I'm willing to pay hundreds more if someone would just provide me with things like a no dog rule, a soundproofed unit, or an office that at least enforces the noise provisions of the lease. There are a lot of us out there suffering, the noisy jerks are the minority. |
