I have just found this website as I look for my next apt due to change in job location. I see that most of the folks who access this site are very unhappy and have many complaints to voice. I have both good and bad things to say. The apartment management is not responsible for the behavior of the people living in the building, and it is the attitude of us residents that affects whether or not this place feels trashy or like a ghetto versus a clean safe environment. For example I notice that there must be several people here who do not care about their surroundings because they constantly leave litter near the entrance and the grounds staff have to clean it up on a regular basis. If we were homeowners, we would not have the services of a groundskeeper and what would the place look like then' I think the new gym and pool community center has improved the look and attitude of this place. I see a litter problem from some apparently careless residents. People who do not want to receive junk mail seem unwilling to walk to the trash can at the laundry roon to throw away unwanted circulars, and so they end up in a pile right there on the floor below the mailboxes. When the dumpster is empty, people do not seem willing to place their garbage bags INTO it and rather will toss them anywhere near the dumpster, sometimes causing trash to be spilled out. I know people who cannot afford to have a computer or online service will not even be reading this site or posting to it. This community is priced at the more reasonable end for this area, and therefore there are many people who live here who may be considered "poor", but that is not necessarily the case. I for one am very thankful that this pricing allowed me to afford to live close to my job. Yes, this is a mixed race neighborhood. In my building at least, I see that most people are busy, trying to get to work and live their lives in a quiet manner, minding their own business and keeping the noise down. There are also some front step loiterers that make it uncomfortable for me when i have to enter or exit the building, because I feel encroached upon and wonder whether they are dealing drugs or just waiting for a ride. The 24 hour security patrol is comforting, although I do not know what they actually do to deter the loiterers. My car has never been damaged or broken into and nobody has ever bothered me. Twice I have helped someone jump start their car.
When I rented this apartment, my rental agent was very helpful and pleasant. I was made aware of the noisy floors above me when I viewed the apt I was considering. I was not told, however, of the upcoming construction that would be causing noise outside my apt., but I remedied that by sleeping with a fan on to mask the sounds. I feel the noise level is similar to other apts I have rented. Parking has been great and never a problem, except that during snow weather they didn't plow the parking areas which caused me to stay home from work due to danger of falling. The safety is fine as far as I have experienced. I have heard of no crime here, but I do not read the crime reports either. I had at one time suspected a neighbor was a drug dealer, and twice I had someone knock on my ground floor window expecting me to be this neighbor, but those neighbors soon were evicted, after I and others complained about them. If the light that illuminates the front door area goes out I will call the office and request the bulb be changed, and this seems to take a while but eventually gets done. My maintenance requests get completed very quickly, are done right, and the maintenance staff are friendly and respectful. If there is to be a water outage due to maintenence, we are always notified in advance. The grounds here are basic and simply landscaped, and they keep it well trimmed and plant flowers etc, and like i already said, they have to clean up litter daily. Since living here almost two years, I have not had any pest problems in my apartment, except once I had to be treated for roaches a year after I moved in-probably due to a new neighbor, and this past spring there was an ant problem after a new neighbor moved in next to me, which I reported and I assume others did as well, because the management had our entire building treated for the ants. They have not been back. I think that you have to balance the pros and cons of any apt community and it is only as good as the tenants make it. I have felt safe and happy here and would stay on if my job hadn't relocated. Yes, if I could afford a nicer place with more square footage I would move, but who can afford 1200 a month for one bedroom' Thank goodness there are still places priced reasonably like Elmwood terrace.

I think it depends on what building you are in. I do like the office staff and maintenance is quick to get things done. I decided to vacuum my floor and my Chihuahua was running across the floor, so the neighbor comes up to complain about me and said they actually wanted to call the police on me. I wake up from her husband snoring loud when I'm in my bedroom.

Hmm... we've lived here for two years and have yet to be notified when they are going to turn the water off for maintenance. You must live in one of the newer buildings- they seem to treat that part a lot nicer.
