A good place, overall

Sometimes my husband and I look back fondly on Frederick Heights. Though it had many of the usual problems found in old, cheap apartments, the staff was friendly, responsive and respectful and the basics were maintained. The floorplans really are spacious, as the management claims. In a subsequent apartment search, we've found that we should not have taken for granted many of the things we had there, like a balcony, dishwasher, and laundry room with extra storage space on the same floor. Sometimes the neighborhood/neighbors made us a little nervous, but we never had any actual crime problems, even when we went for a week with no doorknob (that was entirely our decision--we took the knob off ourselves and didn't tell management because we were crazy and wanted to re-paint the door).
Parking was always easy to find, and the mature ornamental trees all over the property make it a wonderland in the spring. Though there were creaky floors, squirrels in the roof, a loud AC, occasional loud music during the day, smoke from the neighbors leaking through the walls into our non-smoking unit, and the hot water pressure vascillated between freezing and scalding many times during a shower (at least there always was hot water), the standard of living there was pretty decent. We had no bug problems. We've also found out since how much money we saved by the fact that heat and hot water are included in the rent--a real perk. We felt at home there because the neighbors and staff were nice to us. We even had to call maintenance several times after hours to let us in because we forgot our key, and they didn't complain.
