Good, but needs some improvement

This apartment complex is nice, but I have not had the best experience with the management. There are two times I have called them with problems.
The first time was when we were installing our satellite dish, something we were told we could do if we put in a $100 deposit. They will do everything imaginable to discourage you from doing this, though. One person in the office told me that it was supposed to be hard since they didn't like the look of the dishes.
Another time, I had a problem with the inadequate mailboxes provided -- there is no special compartment for packages, so the mailman leaves them at the door or on top of the boxes for anyone to steal. When I mentioned this problem to management, I was told that no one else had a problem with it, and no help was offered. They also said that they do not want the liability of accepting packages. This was not the luxury apartment community they claim to be.
Both these experiences were with the manager -- the other staff in the office are always very friendly. On a day-to-day basis, the apartments are nice and well-maintained. The grounds have a park-like setting, and there is a great walking trail in the middle of the complex. The location is near a bad area of town, so you do hear a lot of sirens. The apartments are large and the maintenance staff is very quick. One Saturday we had a drawer break. We called and left the apartment. When we came back two hours later, the drawer was fixed. I was very impressed by how quickly it was taken care of, and how our belongings were in the same places we left them.
Our lease is up in two months -- because of the management, we are looking for a new place, but if you are looking for a nice apartment, this is the place for you.
Update on 7/19/2003 - we just got our information in the mail if we want to stay after our lease is up -- they will raise the rent to $1100 per month, well above the rental they advertise for new renters. They also insist on 60 days written notice to move out, but they didn?t send the letter with the new rates on it until after the deadline had passed for me to submit my notice to get out at the time my lease is up. I feel that we will definitely be moving out since they obviously do not value their current renters.
Post move out update: We ended up getting charged for a month when we were not even in the apartment. What made me upset about this was that someone in the rental office told me that the units rent really quickly, so it would be fine to hold off giving my 60 day notice because they could sell it in 10 days. I waited until I was absolutely sure we were moving -- a costly mistake. The staff was rude when I called to see if they had rented the unit yet. Of course they didn't want to rent it -- I was paying $1100/month, but they were offering it at $1000/month! These people are too greedy to consider the tenant's needs.
