I have lived in the new Baker Place side for a year. The apartments really are quite nice. We have a 2 BR 2 bath apt with fireplace and gas appliances. I needed maintenance once and they were here literally in 10 minutes. They are pet-friendly, which is good - we have a zoo.

I've been woken in the middle of the night once by a fire alarm. That was really annoying but so far it was an isolated thing. Besides, there's little the rental office can do... we NEED accessible alarms.

The general neighborhood is not the best but Baker Place seems quiet. I once saw a person walking around the complex who was OBVIOUSLY drunk or high.... but again only once.

It is not the most child-friendly place in the world - you have to sign a document that says you will not let your kids play in front of the apartment, only in the playground areas.

The staff are friendly, but frankly pretty useless. It seems that every time I call with a question, the only person who can answer it is not there. Like most leasing offices, once you are signed they really don't care.

Parking BITES where we are, but I think that has to do with a stupid layout of the lots with the courtyard and stuff. We can always find a space, but often very far away.

As I type this I can hear my upstairs neighbors thumping around, but overall I wouldn't say there is a noise PROBLEM. I mean, you can't expect total silence in a apartment. Not too many young people live here - probably because it's relatively expensive.

Finally - I have friends who live in the old apartments and they are sorry they rented here. Neighbors are rude, loud and apparently involved in criminal activity, as noted by the police officer questioning them. They hear sirens constantly while we literally hear none. It's like another complex altogether.

I loved The Residences at the Manor (the so-called "Old apartments"). I think Baker Place was beautifully built and would be a wonderful place to live as well. It's a bit expensive though. As most of the newer apartments are in this area of Frederick. I lived in the so called "old apartments" (The Manor at Willowdale) for 10 1/2 years and I absolutely loved it there. It was quiet, well lit outside and beautifully landscaped and the grounds beautifully maintained. The apartments are nice except they could use a little more closet space. There were two different rental managers while I was there (1997-2008) and they and their staff were very friendly and accomodating. Whenever I needed something done they were on the J-O-B. As far as the parking is concerned I would have liked to see numbered spaces. Most residences had 2 or more cars and maybe even a motorcycle. Those neighbors who had 2 or more cars dominated the close parking spaces because they always had a vehicle parked in a close space. Motorcycle were keep in spaces all year around by a couple of my neighbors. I believed the Manor should have created an area for motorcycles because the owners of the motorcycles would keep the motorcycle in the same parking spot until the weather turned warm and this would dominate a parking space that someone else could have used. I rarely if ever see anyone riding a motorcycle in the winter when the weather is cold or snowy. So the resident could have placed there motorcycle in outside storage which The Manor provided. The building that I stayed in was very quiet. In the over 10 years I was there I only recall one incident of criminal activity (that I was told about by another neighbor and confirmed by the Manor but it was not in my building) when a neighbor was allegedly robbed but was not physically hurt. There could have been other incidences of criminal activity in the "Old apartments", as the writer of the review I'm responding to stated but I did not hear or see it. I rarely heard sirens in the night and if I did they were not coming to The Manor at Willowdale. Again, I loved it there and I felt safe there. The Management did a wonderful job of trying to get the residences to meet and mingle because they would have outdoor picnics, and they would have yard sale type functions where we could show and sell items, such as "Pampered Chef". They even allowed someone to set up selling Christmas trees on the property. You rarely if at all saw folks gathering outside of apartment buildings. Children would play on the playground area. Folks would play tennis on the tennis court, or swim the pool during the summer or workout in the gym or mingle in the beautiful living room area of the Manor house. I appreciate not coming home to have to go through a group of people standing in the way of me going upstairs to my apartment. THANKS TO THE MANAGEMENT OF THE MANOR AT WILLOWDALE (AKA THE RESIDENCES AT THE MANOR) FOR ALLOWING MY OCCUPANCY THERE TO BE ONE FILLED WITH WONDERFUL MEMORIES. I WOULD RECOMMEND YOUR APARTMENTS TO ANYONE.
