I thought the Archstone was mediocre compared to other places I ve lived, paying the same amount of rent. The kitchen and (all) appliances were outdated. The carpet was filthy and there were nasty rust stains in the bathtub. My biggest complaint is the extremely thin floors; either that or there was a 2 ton fat man living above me who made a lot of noise when he walked. I constantly heard stomping and cracking which sometimes sounded like the ceiling was about to cave in. I was also disappointed that there is no security gate.
On a positive note, there is a free shuttle that goes to and from the Shady Grove metro M-F which is really convenient is you take the Metrorail and don t want to pay ridiculous amounts for parking or spend hours trying to find a parking space. The staff is also very friendly and they respond the requests rather promptly. The Washingtonian Center (Target, Kohl s, AMC theaters, Sushi Siam, Macaroni Grill, Joe s Crab Shack, ---- s Sporting Goods, Anne Taylor Loft, Tara Thai, etc.) is awesome and very convenient if you don t mind taking a short walk over.
All in all I give Archstone 3 out of 5 stars. My experience wasn t bad, but it wasn t all that great either.
