When I moved to Grove Park, I did so out of desperation. It was the only place I could afford. BIG MISTAKE!!!

My first morning there, I awoke to find my apartment flooded with 2 inches of water. I called maintenance and they said that they would be out there with in the hour. Four hours later, they had still not shown up. My apartment flooded like this at least once a month for the next year.

Dont even think about getting cable TV there. The lines and wires are so old that you cannot get a clear picture. I wasted almost an entire years worth of vacation time having COMCAST come out to service the apartment, only to never be able to get it fixed because the problem was found to be internal wiring.

My neighbors would loiter on the front steps blocking all entry to the building. They would not move out of the way for you, you had to step over, around and through them. The next morning, you could come outside to find spit all over the steps. How lovely and sanitary. These same neighbors had constant traffic in and out of their apartment. All you would here 24/7 is BANG BANG BANG. It sounded like a heard of wild elephants was living there.

Several months ago, a tenant across the court from my apartment tried to light her place on fire. The complex said that if it was found to be intentionally set that she would be given 15 days to vacate. Well, it was found to be arson, and she has yet to be given her 15 days notice to vacate.

If you intend to park your car in the parking lot, you have to be home by 6:00. If you come home so much as 1 minute later, good luck attempting to find parking. If you have a nice car, dont bother renting here. Your car will be broken in to and vandalized. This has happened to my car 5 times in a year and a half. Another neighbor had his tires slashed. Each time he would get it replaced, someone would come and slash it again that night.

Apparently, these apartments were renovated 3 years ago. The appliances are new-ish, but just dont work. My washing machine flooded my apartment and I was told that it would have to wait until the next day for someone to come out and fix it, but I should sop up the water with my towels and just put them back into the washer (still filled with water mind you).

They are now "renovating" the exterior of the buildings. They are removing the siding and putting up stucco. For this, we have had to incur a 10% increase in our rent for each of the last 2 years. The leasing office says that there is no cap on rent increases so we can either pay up or move out. You get your notice of rent increase exactly 60 days before your lease is up. And, they expect you to respond by 5:00 pm that evening. Who gets home before 5:00 pm if they work' If you dont respond, you are stuck for another year or you have failed to give 60 days notice and have to pay a lease breaking penalty equal to one months rent.

This past weekend, we lost a neighbor. She was robbed and shot as she walked from her car to her apartment. The parking lot is so dark. There are lights on every building, but they dont work. Perhaps, if the management had fixed them as requested by the residents for the past year, her murderer would have thought twice. But, since it was pitch black outside, it was an easy opportunity I guess.

Stay the hell away from Grove Park if you value your sanity and safety.

"BITTER"-anyone who lives here knows that there has been improvements to the property. No property is perfect so if you like reading about "bitter" resedents, this is your site.

no this person is not bitter. who wants to give in a place like this where people are getting killed and the property managers could care less.

I sympathize. I used to see that girl walking her dog around the neighbourhood all of the time, and it would actually make me feel somewhat safer about living in the area. Now she is dead, and you couldn't pay me enough to live here. Make no mistake, this area is ghetto in the truest sense of the word. There are people who go door-to-door asking for spare change. If you don't know who they are, do not even open the door; especially if it is at night.

Grove Park was literally the best deal in town when I moved in. Unfortunately, it sill is. However, I'm moving because 99% of the Shooting, Thugs, and Drugs review is correct. I've been blessed that no one's bothered me and I just try to exercise caution. I live very close to the building where the girl was murdered. I pass that spot every day. There's no nicer way to say it except that many of the residents here appear to be on the lower end of the economic ladder and that's why they live 5, 6, 7, and 8 in the same size unit I have. There's supposed to be some sort of "patrol" presence since the most recent murder. Grove Park personnel claims that they were always there but I don't think so. If you can afford better, don't rent here.
