This was my first apartment out of school, after living in dorms for 3 years and then a very ghetto apartment in Newark ,DE for a year - take this review with a grain of salt.
I moved in in the fall of 2001, as a single white male initially I felt out of place but quickly became comfortable with the area. I can see how some people would be afraid of this neighborhood, but this is really unfounded. Some people just don't know how to live in a predominatley minority area and feel overly paranoid. Some advice - mind your business and you will be fine.
That said. I actually lived in a unit right above the rental office, so I could easily talk to them when I had a problem. The maintenance was prompt as we had problems with our AC in the summer and they fixed in within a couple days. The noise was never a problem for me, and the place was very cozy in the winter. I was overall satisfied with the unit, I renewed my lease for another year, but moved to NJ and had no problems breaking 2nd the lease after 7 months. You just have to give 30 days notice. We got abuot 95% of our deposit back. Overall great place IMO, for the cost it can't be beat in the Rockville area. Initially my rent was $890 but went up to $910 by the time I left. How can you complain'
