Years at this apartment: 2004 - 2004
I only thought these kinds of instances happened in the movies. Well, I was wrong. My husband and I came to see these apartments, thinking the area was nice and hearing some good reviews. After about an hour of hashing about a move-in special, we were rushed into moving in 2 weeks earlier than we were prepared. We were told alady was moving out 8/30 and no one could hold the apartment longer than 2 weeks (and this was the ONLY apartment available). So, e lived in boxes and prepared ourselves for the move as best we could. Our Move in date was 9/10/04. We packed up 2 car loads and drove over to get the keys. When we got to the rental office, the manitenane mane was there and said there may be an issue w/ our carpet..they were still laying it in the apartment. We were calm and sucked it up. They took us to our new home [which we were going to pay $1072/mo for.] We walked in the front door, and the maintenance men were laying new carpet (still), all the plastic casings were broken around every window(and these were quoted as unrepairable because those windows arent manufactured anymore), the baseboards were broken and pulled away from the walls, the bathroom was completely rusty, the plastic shower head was rusty, the fridgerator was leaking rust and stunk badly. The kitchen counter was broken and chipped, the florescent light has a short fuse(fire hazard) & the switch didnt work. The front burner on the stove was on and no one could turn it off because all the knobs had been switched. The wooden cabinets were stained w/ something red and the WREAKED of curry. It was absolutely disgusting. My husband had tried to open the pantry closet door, and someone had painted the night before and closed the door while it was wet and the door stuck together. So when we opened the door, wood flew everywhere. We couldnt move in. We went back to the rental office and spoke w/ the manager who desperately pleaded w/ us to stay, that "this sort of thing has never happened before" and they had 2 other open apartments. I asked if those had been open, how come we were never offered those and rushed into this mess. I also inquired why the place was so bad. We were told the lady didnt move out when she was supposed to and they had just started renovating the night before. I then asked why we were lied to when my husband had called the day before and asked if the place was ready. No one could answer. So we agreed to look at 2 other places. The first one was nasty as well. Same broken windows, same rust, stained carpets. So we looked at the last place..it was the better of the three, but still just as disgusting. The carpet was severely stained and we asked if it could be replaced (we were considering moving into that apartment). The lady (name shall remain anonymous because I am nice) said she couldnt promise anything and that our expectations were just too high. She proceeded to state the following, "Well, you have a couch dont you' Can't you just put the couch over the stain''" and my personal favorite, "I an going to be brutally honest with you, I think you are expecting too much from this place, afterall you are getting what you pay for." My comment is, "your absolutely right, and my $1072/mo is going to pay someone else for a place to live." I am completely disgusted w/ Avalon Knoll. Then to make matters worse, we had to find a place to stay (we have been living in boxes for 2 weeks) and they owed us our security deposit. We suffered 2 weeks of lies and deceit, but after enough fighting, I finally got my deposit back. I would not recommend this as a place to live. I am sorry. if you want to live in Germantown, please see my rating of Kingsbury Crossing...that was a wonderful place to live. Lucky enough, we have been blessed w/ an apartment in Gaithersburg called Park Station. Primary location. Please feel free to look into that rating as well. God Bless & good luck to those of you in search for a home.
