I am a current resident and find it appalling to see the some of the comments on here.
my two cents:
Maintenance: I have lived here for three years and maintenance has always been prompt and courteous. This is a very large property and any of my maintenance requests have always been addressed in two days or less. The maintenance guys are polite and helpful.
Office: The office staff have gone through several changes over the last three years, with at least 2 complete turnovers but they still seem to care about the residents. The staff that was here up until last summer even started having resident parties and social gatherings, with giveaways, food and entertainment. I would really like to see those again!
Buildings: Yes, the apartments are about 20 years old. But they just replaced a number of decks, right now they are doing roof replacements, and the office told me they are also replacing siding on the buildings. There is only so much they can do short of tearing it all down and rebuilding, so I think they are doing ok as far as keeping the buildings up, I just wish they would replace the windows...they are not very good at sealing in the heat in the winter and cool in the summer.
Noise: Yes, you hear your neighbors. But guess what' IT'S AN APARTMENT. I suspect those who make nasty comments about noise levels in their apartment really need to just buy a single family home, because part of apartment living is you do hear your neighbors. It doesn't matter where you go. Read through the ratings on this site, one of the biggest complaints I see is noisy neighbors. Give me a break! If it is noise that can be prevented, like a loud stereo, TALK TO YOUR NEIGHBOR! How simple is that''' My previous upstairs neighbor used to play her stereo quite loud, and all it took was a polite request from me and she realized it was too loud. This started an actual FRIENDSHIP with my neighbor. IMAGINE THAT! There is no need to involve or blame the office for TVs and stereos when you can make friends with your neighbors and MAKE THE EFFORT to find a solution that works for everyone.
Appliances: Yes, some of the appliances are old. We still have what is probably the original dishwasher from when the place was built, but it works just fine. Our fridge broke down and we got a new one within days.
Pest Control: I see the occasional ant depending on the time of year, but they do routine pest control in my building several times a year, and I suspect in the other buildings as well.
Parking: It's permit only, and often times the visitor spaces are filled up, but if I am expecting a visitor I can go to the office and get a visitor pass. The towing company is a bit overzealous with towing vehicles.
Security: There have been a couple events on the property in the three years I have been here, but considering what goes on at some of the other properties around here, it is no worse here. It's a big property that covers three blocks so statistically there is bound to be some crime, and that's anywhere you go. I challenge anyone to show me a neighborhood with absolutely no crime! It just does not exist anymore. There are also several police officers that live on the property which add to my own sense of security.
