Not the worst, but not recommended

Years at this apartment: 2001 - 2002

We moved into Fox Run Apartments in mid-December of 2001. I had relocated back to the DC area for work and wanted a place near I-270 and Montgomery College. Well that is about the only benefit this place offers.

The first problems I had with Fox Run Apartments was on day one. I visited the place two weeks prior and liked the layout of the community. So when it came down to paying my security deposit, we had one request, and that request was that we had a good view of the southern sky so we could purchase a satellite dish. Well once they showed us our new place we were not satisfied. It was on the ground floor (which we did want) but the lighting the apartment got was very inadequate. We had asked if there were other apartments available and our landlord said there were some, and made a big hassle about reworking of the paperwork. So we tried to stay positive and said ?well in the summertime the apartment will be cooler?. So we reluctantly signed the paperwork and moved in.

Once we started moving in, we had noticed that in one of the closets we had a 3? x 10? piece of carpet cut out. Also upon further inspection we found the piece of cut out carpet was used to replace a piece of damaged carpet. Also it seemed that someone with an iron really did not like the carpet, as there were half-a-dozen iron marks on the carpet in various places. We brought it to the attention of the landlord and they have still not addressed this issue.

The next major issue we had discovered is all the electrical outlets in the apartment were cheap outlets. All the top outlets could not accept a plug without falling out (very loose fit).

The first heat-wave came in spring and it seemed our A/C was not working well. 24 hours after we called we found out the motor in the central air was burned out. After they ordered a new one, and taking days to get, they found out the wiring was different and had to order another part. By the time we got our A/C fixed, a week had passed and so did the heat wave. Since then we have called the landlord near 20 times for various other A/C problems (Freon leaks so almost on a weekly basis it stops blowing cold air, the core froze and had to be replaced, etc).

We have also had horrendous problems with our upstairs neighbors. The are very heavy-footed and stomp around 1am , 2am, 3am, or later, many times slamming objects to the ground hard enough to shake our smoke detector from it?s bracket. They also had a leak in their water pipe hooking up to their toilet, and proceeded to flood our bathroom. It took hours for service to respond.

UPDATE 10/24/2002: Another problem has crept up. Mold has grown within the ventalation system, possibly because the A/C was so out-of-whack this summer. Found out my girlfriend is very allergic to the mold, so even if there were very few problems, we woul dmove because of this.

Also it seems to be a slow leak coming from my upstairs naighbors water pipes, so some of the wood on the door jam is getting ruined.

We just do not know if we have run into a string of bad luck with the apartment, or if this issue is repeated in the complex. We constantly see people moving in and out of Fox Fun, which to me is an indicator that this is not a long term place to stay. Therefore we can?t recommend this place.
