In November 2003 a new management took over, and what used to be known as "Archstone Milestone" is now called "Milestone Apartments". The old management was not great, and the new management is quite bad. They summonsed me to court for failure to pay rent however it was clearly a clerical error on their part. Still I had to miss 1/2 day of work to go to court. Certainly now I don't feel very welcome where I live.
There are alot of professionals living here, and for the most part my neighbors are good if not friendly. I have read alot of complaints about the kids, but kids are kids and you'll have them no matter where you live.
The apartments themselves are not especially nice, and are cheaply built. The appliances are the worst, Hotpoint, absolutely cheapest everything. Our clothes come out of the washer a massive wrinkled knot and we waste alot of time ironing things like jeans. The sinks are so cheap the knobs break off constantly and are rusting. The drains generally work poorly, some close on their own, others won't close at all.
There are insects, I think silver fish, and I've heard of alot of mice, but we don't have mice in our building. My neighbor friend downstairs has seen the mice though.
One of the biggest complaints is that since the new management took over they have decreased the hours that the office is open. If you have a package waiting for you in the mail room, you have to race against the clock to get there by 5:30 (used to be 7pm) otherwise wait until Saturday. Furthermore, with a recent increase in breakins I'm concerned that there is an overall decrease in security after 5:30.
The parking spots are tight, so don't bother buying a new car unless you can live with the multitude of door dings you will eventually have. I have over ten, I stopped counting.
The landscaping is poor, and when they do have work being done it's increadibly loud. Imagine a beautiful spring morning ruined by 2 hours of leaf blowers, close the windows and run the AC. I'm talking 8am. Still there are shrubs that have been uprooted by storms just laying there, and many other shrubs growing so large that you can't walk on the sidewalks without having your clothes torn at by the branches and getting whacked in the face by branches.
What this apartment complex does have going for it is fantastic location. It is kitty corner to a shopping plaza with Best Buy and Target and Giant foods plus alot more. There are plenty of convenient buses as well, with a large bus stop over by Target. Germantown has alot of decent restaurants and a great new movie theater. Suburban bliss if you can deal with the idiot drivers killing each other with their disregard for red lights.
