Avoid Oak Mills like the plague

Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2004
I had a 6 month lease at Oak Mill and I can tell you it was about a 5 1/2 months too long. When I first moved in everything seemed okay there was a problem with the sink, I called maintenance and they fixed it within a week. I never had problems with their maintenance staff cause they always fixed thing in a timely and efficient manner.
However one of the first things I noticed is that the walls and ceiling are paper thin. I could here conversations my neighbors had. And God forbid they walk around at night it will wake (and I'm a deep sleeper). My lights would actually flicker and dim when the people upstairs were walking in their apartment.
Parking is horrible. If you arrive after 6:00pm you'll have a good walk. Management said that they were creating permits for the residents and required everyone to get tags for their vehicle but 3 months later nothing has happened.
This is an example of their poor customer service. They lose paperwork. ALWAYS ASK FOR A RECEIPT. They lost my rent check, but realized the mistake was theirs when I got the check back in the mail and showed them. They also lost my letter to vacate the apartment, which I am in the process of resolving now.
The absolute worst part of Oak Mills is the people living there. They have a program where if you make below a certain amount of money you can rent at Oak Mills at a discounted rate. For example if you are only making $7.50 an hour you can get assistance and only pay $350 a month rather than the $1000 a month others pay. At first I thought this program was a good idea and would not affect me. But I realized that there are problems with this. I didn't mind so much the 10 people living in the apartment next to me. However it became annoying when other neighbors would be waiting on the front step to beg for money. As you would walk out to your car at night people would come up to you with an elaborate story about how they needed gas money to get to work the next morning. I could believe it if it was a one time thing, but the problem is that they are out their every night.
All in all don't rent here. Look elsewhere. There are many other options in the area for the same price.
