One of the worst apartment complexes in Gtown

I agree with the last two posting regarding this property. Oakmill is one of the worst apartment complexes in Gtown. I live in the building across from the rental office. I have been here since 2002 until now. When I first came everything was somewhat okay until my waterheater broke my two weeks here. I went on vacation the following week and came back to find that the carpet padding was not replaced and the bathroom door and cabinets had severe water damage from the leak. Maintenance took a month to replace the door and cabinet fixtures. I have had a leaking toilet were the floor tiles were damaged and cracked. Maintenance came to fix the toilet in 9 months ago. However they have not replaced the tiles that are coming up of the floor. Even repeated messages to the rental office has not helped. Maintenance is a joke here. They are always short staff and can never keep employees. Maybe its because the work is too much. These apartments are old and are not worth the money. The H/C unit is located outside with the return vent in the living area. In the winter the cold comes through the return vent because the area that the unit is in is not insullated causing the apartment to be colder, which cause the unit to run constantly and in return the bill is as high as $170/mo for a family of 4. The appliances are old and need to be replaced. My family and I have even had to call the fire department because we were locked into our apartment, due to the locks on the doors being so old. The fire department had to break the lock and remove the whole thing to get us out. Maintenance did not show up to replace the lock until 2hr later in which I had to miss work waiting for them. The ventillation of the building is awful because you can always smell what your neighbors are cooking and I often smell cigarette smoke in bedroom near my closet area which makes my clothes often smell bad. Thank God for Febreeze.

This area is also a high crime area. They have finally inforced the permit parking in Mar04 and did away with a tenant have to pay for a vistor's parking permit. I guess they came their senses on that. I have had my brand new motorcycle stolen last spring. My neighbors cars have been broken into causing them to monitor their vehicles late hours into the night with fear it may be stollen. We have a police officer that lives in our building but what good is that' None because crime is still going on. The police officer is just receiving discounted living because his presence means nothing. There are always people hanging out in the parking lots late hours in the night. There used to be a bunch of guys waiting to go to work, but neither one them live in my building or even this complex. There has been a series of 7 apartment breakins (see the gazette). The rental office put out a notice saying there were 2 break-ins when in fact there were 5 at the time the letter was put out. They have not said anything else about the other 2 that just happened this month. Most of my neighbors have left breaking their leases because this area is not safe poorly lit parking lots with pot holes. I am leaving with the possibly of breaking my lease as well. The rental office staff have been asked to have a some sort of security car driving through the area to insure the safety of their tenants. Their reply was they don't want to give a false sense of security.

If you ever become curious about living at Oakmill take a look at the property and you will see the H/C unit vents staining the buildings with rust running down the sides, siding coming off the building, disconnected drain pipes. However they have invested money into the remodling of the rental office a project that started in Fall 2003 but yet they will not invest in the up keep of the property. Please take my word for it. Do not live here, you WILL be SORRY.
