Great for the first few months, but neighbors were ruining it. (Updated)

Great location, easy access to 270 and you can easily walk to anything you need or want.
The shuttle to Shady Grove metro is a short walk away. Management has generally been helpful and worked with us on our fast move in and the early termination of our contract (bought a home).
The layout of our apartment is nice and feels larger than most of the other places in the area.
But as in any apartment complex, the neighbors make the stay pleasant or not so pleasant. In our case, when we first moved in, the neighbors where quiet and polite. We wouldn't even know we had any if we didn't see them every once in a while. But for the last 5 months or so... the new neighbors are terrible.

The one next door can't get enough of their sound system... thumping bass till 11PM most nights. (UPDATE: No problems now, either moved out, or learned how to turn the system down a notch)

The neighbors across the corner from us, belligerently fight with each other loudly on their balcony, late and night and early morning (just got home from the bar drunk 2AM). They really need to just break up and move on. (UPDATE: Moved out!!! YEAH!)

Finally last month (May) someone tried to break into our apartment, working over the door by the lock with a crowbar. I will give the nice metal doors credit that they took the crowbar in stride and didn't let the jerks in, but getting a hold of maintenance on a weekend can be frustrating at best. If you have ever talked to the emergency answering service you know what I am talking about. Ugh...

Over all, the location and apartment layout brings my score up, but if this place was anywhere else, I would not recommend it.

(UPDATE: Things are getting better... management is being more aggressive with getting rid of the irritating neighbors. Who in my case are all gone now. Thank you!
I almost don't want to move. The rent is half of what my new mortgage payment will be and the pool is open. Plus, the Summer concert series is playing down the street at the Black Rock and it is nice. I am upping my ratings a little in light of the recent improvements to the living environment.)

Okay... let me see if i got this straight. 1. Someone tried to break into your apartment. 2. You have neighbors whom management allows to disturb the other tenants. And you are recommending other people come and join you in the fun? LMAO!

I agree, it seems odd to recommend this place given the problems I have had. And, I think that I more than adequately explained the problems that forced my rating of the complex down. But, here is why in the end I think it is a place to consider living. 1) Location... if you want a place that you can walk to almost anything and super convenient access to the metro, then this is the place to stay. 2) Management seems to be more proactive now in getting rid of tenants who disturb their neighbors. In fact, there is a new post (7/12/07), for this apartment, where the person complained because they were kicked out for this very issue. Although they say it is because we are all old people who don't like young black people with kids. But I think that is just what that person has to tell them self to not have to take responsibility for their actions. 3) If the break-in would have been successful, I would not have been as forgiving. But, the fact that the metal door held up to an obvious attack with a crowbar is a good thing. And the maintenance came the next day and reinforced the striker plate per my request. Finally, my negative remarks were not so much a problem with the apartment complex, but with the people who ruin it for everyone else. The noisy neighbors and the jerks who think that they are entitled to break-in and take the stuff I work hard to pay for. I think that although this place is not perfect, the management and location are better than most other places around here. And if I was not buying a house and moving out soon, I would not move anywhere else. It seems that these days, no place is free from rude and stupid/criminal people... it is just a matter of if the concentration of them in your environment is tolerable and if the management is doing something to reduce the numbers. I think at the Pinnacle both of these are true.
